There’s a video circulating on social media alleging that TMPD officers were caught taking a bribe from an arrested foreign national. After gathering the facts on the matter, we want to inform residents that the storyline portrayed on social media isn’t true. The TMPD officers were conducting routine searches on suspects following their apprehension during a #ReASpana service delivery operation in Winterveld.
Searching suspects is part of the job. The officers and the arrested suspect, who remains in jail, confirmed that the money was returned.
Residents of Tshwane, we take allegations of corruption seriously in this city and any wrongdoing will not go unpunished.
