Yes and there were hundreds like you but not enough for it to be successful. But if you go by cultural consensus today it appears as if people think it was this completely under appreciated masterpiece. That it was a game we let fail because we were philistines who couldn’t appreciate what we were given. When in reality it reviewed well and people gave it a chance but we didn’t stick around because it was decently fun for a short time but mediocre compared to its competition at the time.

I played CS for 15 years from 1.5 to GO. That game has substance. Titanfall looks flashy and is fun in small doses as something different but it lacks mechanical substance to keep you engaged. It’s why it never took any significant market share from CoD, BF, or CS. Battle passes add content not substance. Don’t twist my words.

Been playing games for 30 years and I’m sick of seeing this revisionist trend which is all the rage at the moment… Titanfall 2 was mediocre when it launched and still is mediocre now… and if Respawn shadow dropped Titanfall 3 tomorrow it would also fail. No hate against the real fans still playing today but it just wasn’t as good as people make it out to be today otherwise it would still be popular today.

I just don't understand why Kliff has to be such a bland, stoic character. Crimson Desert is literally about this ludicrously hyper-competent guy travelling about and doing nice things for everybody, and they should absolutely have leaned into that and made him a cheerful himbo.

This game really needs a price reduction to give it a chance at long term stability. Niche multiplayer only game using the skin of an old forgotten franchise, the fact that it’s bungle isn’t enough. 15-20 years ago this would be a multiplayer mode for another game. It’s not worth $40 USD. They spent too much on this to have it exist as a game with a <10k player install base on its lead platform.

idk, folks. This doesn't look very stable, to me. I'm starting to think people don't know what that word means. 1.2 million copies sold and 70% of them are on Steam is the verified rumor. Anyone know any whales to buy everyone ever single skin to get Marathon to profitability? It's losing about 10K peak per week, on average. Looking rough.

It’s a game for people who enjoy engaging with gameplay mechanics and systems. They don’t always work seamlessly together but when they do there’s a huge sense of satisfaction that leaves you wondering if that interaction was a design choice or unintended. It’s got a fair bit in common with games like Morrowind and Ultima which gave me the same sense of excitement to experiment with mechanics back when I was a kid. If you are looking for a well polished experience with consistent tone, pacing, and a central narrative à la Witcher 3 or a modern Assasins Creed title it’s definitely going to leave you disappointed. It’s not perfect but it’s refreshing to see a game like this made today.

It’s got issues that’s for sure. However, all of that jank can be overlooked because it’s legitimately fun. It gives me the same sense of intrigue I remember having a teenager playing Morrowind for the first time. A bit overwhelming but you just want to push through because it’s hooked you in.

IGN's final review of Crimson Desert is up. Personally, seeing how frantically the updates keep coming for this one, I'm thinking of holding off and playing it after more of the constructive community feedback gets addressed. ign.com/articles/crims…

By that logic we should not use Microsoft Word and bring back scribes and not pasturise milk so we can bring back milkmen. Some jobs just disappear over time due to changes in the needs of the industry they serve. In saying that artists will still be required, but reducing the reliance of artists will only help the industry reduce development costs which is why studios are blowing up after one bad release. We need cheaper development costs and less bloated studios.

I’d almost go as far as to say if there’s no major shake up in the industry we may be getting close to the end of “consoles” as they stand now. Even the XSX and PS5 are hard to justify owning sometimes. You pay a premium for a closed system where games still can’t lock to 60fps and exclusives are few and far between. Also, given how poor the Xbox consoles have performed in the last decade who is surprised Microsoft are going away from that $500-700 USD market for consoles. Problem is that their other platform eats into its market so it’s almost a case of why bother with the development and production costs when you could just push the Xbox brand onto existing PC lite products like the Steamdeck/machine and then release all their products on the PlayStation platform and collect the software revenue. PC will always be the premier platform for video games going forward as consoles are still stuck in the 90s and development times are destroying their worth for exclusives alone.

@FervorGamingYT @geoffkeighley I don’t understand why you would make a third entry in a franchise where the first two were mediocre at best. Honestly if EA announced Titanfall 3 there would be fanfare for a month then it would fade into obscurity just like the first two did.

I have always found this element of American culture strange. There is just these random service roles where tipping is expected (instead of earned), but not in other roles with a similar function. It’s inconsistent even within the hospitality industry. The other quirk is not including sales tax as part of the advertised price. It makes the US seem cheaper than its western counterparts when in reality it’s often as expensive if not more expensive when you add these extra hidden costs into the equation.

I paid a $169.29 breakfast bill and left the tip at $0. Not because I didn’t notice the line — but because tipping, for me, is still a personal choice, not a fixed charge. The meal itself was fully paid for. The prices were set, the tax was added, and the total was clear. Covering that bill already supports the restaurant, its staff, and its operations. That part of the transaction was complete. What made this moment uncomfortable wasn’t the math — it was the pressure that followed. Tipping used to be a way to say “thank you” when service stood out. Somewhere along the way, it shifted into an expectation that can feel detached from the actual experience. Everyone comes in with different circumstances, different standards, and different limits. Respecting that choice — whatever the number — is part of keeping trust between customers and businesses. When that respect slips, so does the desire to come back. Credit: Lena Anderson via FB

@LeaderGrev Concord has become synonymous for any game that is made for an audience that doesn’t exist. It’s an overused meme at this point but it will be a yardstick for this phenomenon for years to come without a doubt.

The industry is so bloated at this point I think collapse is probably needed to reset expectations. The current trajectory is unsustainable. Smaller teams, smaller budgets, and faster releases is the right way forward. AI advancements can also absolutely be leveraged to trim studio staff numbers down as that technology develops.

I don't think gamers really understand how bad of a state the video game industry is in right now. The Rockstar developer I am interviewing next week has been unemployed for a year, he can't find work and this is someone who worked on L.A. Noire, RDR1, GTA V and RDR2!! Even with an impressive resume he can't even get interviews, I wasn't exaggerating when I said we are in the midst of an extinction level event of talent in the game industry.
