@BenGunnEx Welcome back from controlled coma. Last time I was about to enter into one, another patient, a certain Jason, was refusing to wake up from his anesthesia… not the best way to start yours!

So I'm mostly alive. I have 3 leads, 2 pacing, 1 defib. A pacing lead has gone wrong, needs replacing, so have to struggle a bit till that's done. New battery, and defibrillator working.

And here we go again. When did it become normal for a major western city to have ‘an Islamist scene’? When did we decide that radical mosques and hate preachers and private religious schools teaching from Jihadist texts are just something we accept in a liberal secular society? Individuals and their faith? Fine by me. Organised and proselytising political Islamist organisations and preachers? We have long since needed a serious crackdown on that with the arrest or expulsion of extremists and mandatory monitoring of what is being taught in the mosques.

This is apparently the suspect of yesterday’s terror attack in Berlin. Just like many other recent perpetrators in Germany, he was not only known to authorities and openly confessed his desire to commit an attack on others, but also just recently was released from a youth penitentiary. It is unclear at this time why he was serving a prison sentence. Granted, this is most likely a lone wolf attack, which are notoriously hard to detect and prevent. But, at the same time, he like many others was known to these authorities. This makes one really wonder how agencies like Germany’s domestic intelligence services, such as the BfV and Berlin’s LfV, allocate surveillance resources. It really appears to slowly be the case that there is a systematic neglect or failure of surveilling individuals that are actually prepared to commit acts of violent extremism.
