It’s hard to explain to people how compelling a Vision Pro 2 at half the size and half the price would be, even if it had the same specs and features as it does today. Like buying a laptop, multiple monitors, and a 3D movie theater—all of which happens to fit in your bag. This is no doubt where Apple is headed—the first Vision Pro doing well or not will have little influence in their long term roadmap for this line of devices.

I'll hold off on giving my opinion of the Apple Vision Pro until I have tried it myself. I encourage everyone else to do the same.

Sadly, I won't be attending Meta Connect this year. Then again, I can't even imagine attending a Connect where this photo isn't able to be taken.

@benz145 Depends on how you define 3D imagery. Check this out Ben. Where are you? I'm at Meta Connect with Jesse, Blair, Mark and the OGs! blocks.glass

Is it possible to embed 3D imagery into 2D web pages for viewing on XR headsets? For instance, can I add a 3D image or model to a flat webpage so it would appear in 3D for anyone who was browsing the page in a headset?

Fighter aircraft with actual people in them will seem extremely unwise in retrospect. Btw, what’s holding you back from doing Mach ~1.5? Compressibility drag is lower there than at 0.95. Air density drops exponentially with altitude, whereas speed-based drag is merely a square. Just get high.

So glad we can finally talk about this! Fury is a high-performance, multi-mission group 5 autonomous air vehicle. It is capable of pulling 9Gs at Mach 0.95 for a tiny fraction of the cost of similarly performant fighter craft. anduril.com/fury/

@benz145 It's a Klingon Cruiser from Star Trek Generation 19. I own one of these, and its powered by dilithium crystals and a very powerful magnet.

@benz145 Windows 11, I think it has some update drivers for better GPU performance, even though I am betting you have a Nvidia GPU

@benz145 You are so right, some developer guidelines specify the exact radius that is acceptable for a corner. Let's not talk about font and drop shadows specs 😆😆😆

The war between round corners and square corners in software has been waged for decades now with no clear winner. When is someone going to invent one corner to rule them all?

@benz145 Absolutely. I remember the SVVR meeting where there was about 400 of us, including you Ben. Many of those pioneers are now spread about the industry, working on the making the dream a reality.

Absolutely wild that this is where XR is today. 10 years ago those of us who saw the possibility of this future were largely thought insane 😅

Would you rather: get an Apple Vision Pro t͟o͟d͟a͟y but have to skip the Apple Pro Vision 2, or wait until early next year to get Apple Vision Pro when it launches

@benz145 @benz145 I think the real advantage is the huge ecosystem that Apple is going to support. Meaning Apple Vision Pro will be supported by the watch, the phone, the Macs, Apple TV, etc. Maps, productivity apps and then the iOS developers who have been using ARKIT to create apps.

Calling it now... Meta is going to be really focused over the next 6 months at trying to replicate something like the Apple Vision Pro look+pinch input scheme, but they're going to be blindsided at launch when they realize how important Siri + voice input is to the experience.

With the app-model of AVP, persistent 'digitals toys' should finally be possible. Imagine a virtual chess board sitting on your table. You make a move, walk to another room to watch a show, come back and the board is still on the table... and the opponent has made a move.

@DSCCRoss @SadlyItsBradley This is great news! Actual HDR that actually shines with a lot of power and also that huge PPI. Can you translate that to resolution roughly? My mind is numb to do the math now

@benz145 Ben, this was a small detail, but as always very insightful and important. Excited to see the Apple HMD. I am starting to get the same feeling I had at the launch of the iPhone and the Quest 2.

Very curious what Apple’s ‘home button’ for XR will look like… and how many months until Meta copies it. Because right now telling someone “click the menu button on the controller, the concave one—no on the other controller—ok now find the quit button” hasn’t cut it since CV1.

@benz145 Highly doubtful it's a coincidence! Given the sheer number of Apple developers, Apple will provide some competition. How quickly will they adapt to making XR titles is the question, for an Apple HMD. Given years of ARKIT experience, I would say the odds are fairly good!
