"Instead, « decentralised art », as perceived by the general public and defined within the web3 ecosystem, became an integral part of the market subject to speculation, tokenisation, and has had little or nothing to do with art."

"It seemed like the emergence of web3 would lead to artistic explorations that reflect, or at least attempt to reflect, this new paradigm, however, « decentralised art », too often framed as NFTs, is far from questioning the ontological reality of the blockchain. "

Broken Images No. 25, @JanRobertLeegte, 2023 Acquired by @lerandomart on Jun 19, 2023 Jan Robert made his first net art works in 1997, two years after the launch of the Nettime mailing list: 1995: Nettime Forms and net[.]art Begins "In the spring of 1995, Nettime, a mailing list and platform that was instrumental in the formation of net[.]art, formed. The list featured some of the earliest net[.]art pioneers and coined the term itself. It consisted of JODI’s Joan Heemskerk and Dirk Paesmans, Geert Lovink, Heath Bunting, Vuk Ćosić and Alexei Shoulgin. Organized by Lovink, Nettime as a group met in June at the Venice Biennale, laying the foundation for what was to come. By fall, nettime-l had taken root, fostering the exchange of ideas and discourse and some of the earliest net[.]art. Ćosić explained to the author (Peter Bauman) how in his view JODI were the first net[.]art practitioners: ”On the nettime list itself we didn’t post net[.]artpieces that could be displayed or collected but we spoke about it and gave it life. I personally adored the JODI posts that were consistently pushing the idea of net[.]art as a liberating force. They were the first in many regards.”"
