You must not know the films we are talking about to understand the reference. I am not opposed to deconstruction stories in general. I do not care for taking decades long characters and have them break bad for the smallest of reasons. That is cheap and sensational. It is the sort of thing that an editor would stop in a comic book story with a new author. It was not stopped here and the Star Wars franchise has been wrecked by it.
Luke Skywalker having the sads and running away allowed billions to die including a number of people he loved (and he might have prevented from happening). The lesson from the author is that we all fail and that is ok. No one can have such conviction through their life. It was roundly rejected and rightfully so.
