What if memories could be rewritten? #UofT researcher Sheena Josselyn studies how memories are encoded, stored & recalled, and how they might be reprogrammed or erased, advancing research on PTSD and Alzheimer’s disease. 🧠 uoft.me/josselyn-s

This looks amazing. Rats composing long action sequences out of short ones. mPFC constructing the long sequence by Reusing primitive representations but composing overall progression. One of the most impressive things I have ever seen a rodent do. biorxiv.org/content/10.648…

New paper in Nature Neuro! We found dopamine is severely impaired in the lateral entorhinal cortex of Alzheimer’s mice. Optogenetic stimulation of entorhinal dopamine and LEVODOPA treatment restored their memory – dopamine treatment may be a future treatment for AD patients!

My postdoctoral work is finally published in Nature Neuroscience after six years! We show that dopamine signaling in the lateral entorhinal cortex, previously identified as being involved in memory, is disrupted in an Alzheimer’s disease mouse model. nature.com/articles/s4159…

Neuroscience has become increasingly concerned with prediction, and machine learning with causal explanation, with each field adopting methods from the other, writes @gershbrain. Will this bring us closer to understanding neural systems? thetransmitter.org/the-big-pictur…

How does the brain build a memory? A common assumption is that the neurons activated during an experience collectively form the memory engram. In our new Nature Neuroscience paper (finally out!), we show that this is not the case. nature.com/articles/s4159…

Thrilled to share my first pre-print, where we show that episodic memory formation is theta-rythmic! Thanks to my supervisor, Katherine Duncan, and collaborators for your support and insights. Looking forward to where this research program takes us! osf.io/preprints/psya…
