In a lot of sporting actions, the muscles of the abdominal wall have to produce force and contribute to coordination during spinal extension, rotation, and/or lateral flexion. You have to have strength (and control) at length rather than just concentric shortening.

Should you delay your caffeine intake 2 hours after waking up to avoid the afternoon crash? Science says NO. A recent review combed the data and found no evidence this works. In fact, one of the proposed mechanisms (adenosine clearance) was found "scientifically inaccurate."
