Am I the only one that thinks Arc Raiders skins are actually incredible? I remember some people complaining about them but I love how perfectly they fit the world’s vibe. The aesthetic is so unique to the game and I hope Embark doesn't ever steer away from it to chase MTX money.

@JayViperTV Or maybe playing something for 10 hours a day makes something newly released irresistable? It's why marriage exists.

@tha_watchman @AncientArgonaut @nib95_ Also what Epic use here - Houdini - is expensive. Natsura's looking quite promising on that side, coming from the botany side, but I can see they're struggling a little with the UE side.

@tha_watchman @AncientArgonaut @nib95_ Nice work. The problem is that just like the twig stage you've done, the rest of the trunk and branch network is just so species specific. So whereas L-systems for example give a language to describe a tree, there's really no catalog describing species using it.

I swear Crimson Desert makes me feel like I'm playing a next-gen game! 🤯 It's a travesty more games won't be using this BlackSpace Engine over Unreal Engine 5. 😭 #CrimsonDesert

@tha_watchman @AncientArgonaut @nib95_ PlantFactory, although nice that is just as powerful as SpeedTree - more in many ways like exporting the tree's spine and instancing, its learning curve is just too high for the UE indie/solo. I can see UE definitely putting in a basic nanite tree editor, like Unity once had.

Yeah, PlantFactory also seems like to much work. I started making my own, Blender based generator with a goal to export everything in the correct format. So far I managed to generate a Spruce twig as the first Nanite Assembly part. It has a single root bone at the base. This is all done via pure math, no manual modeling involved. The script runs less than 1 second. Once I have all the needed parts and I can confirm that it's all working I will be fine-tuning the material generation and maybe even package this as a plugin for sale. Ideal scenario would be a live link between blender and unreal. So you can simply generate with one click, import with one click and then start creating variants in unreal without having to manually export and import everytime.

@HappyVideogamer @Dublicus And he joined Epic 22 years after Tim started developing the Engine which, 3 millions lines of code later, made Fortnite possible. He didn't even invent Battle Royale - Epic were helping out PUBG and decided they should do one too. He was important, but far less than Tim.

really , Donald Mustard was a key creator and the primary creative force behind Fortnite. As the former Chief Creative Officer (CCO) at Epic Games, he shaped the game's vision, directed its storyline, and co-created Fortnite: Battle Royale. He retired from Epic Games in September 2023. he did more

@Greggreenwood17 @blowingtom2 @Nev92612361 See how partisan you are? Both parties have had adequate time to ensure reserves won't cause people to take out 'fuel insurance'. It was once found that a rat shocked by electric cage walls just stopped touching the walls, but two blamed each other and fought to the death.

@neverparrot @blowingtom2 @Nev92612361 Ever since the 90's when Howard sold off evey Govt asset, we have not had Govt businesses! Menzies sold COR in 52! There is not a fuel crisis! You are just fear mongering! The worldwide shortage has been caused by trump stopping 20% of the world's oil! The ALP is not to blame?

@Greggreenwood17 @blowingtom2 @Nev92612361 Because ALP are getting blamed and Tom is an ALP diehard. So instead of considering the fuel crisis as the outcome of governments going back decades for not investing in fuel storage infrastructure, it's defend ALP at all costs, blame the people.

I get so annoyed by people who just sit there when the light turns green. Sit there for 3-4 seconds then instead of giving it gas, just let off the break and barely move for the next 100 feet. When the light turns green….. GO

@blowingtom2 @Nev92612361 He does if it's just a matter of time before fuel stations run out, as you suggest. He's just supposed to stop his business for weeks if he can't get fuel? You're just looking for a scapegoat for the ALP.

@tha_watchman @AncientArgonaut @nib95_ I was working on a process early on with PF & Houdini, but a re-occurring thing that's bitten me many times with Epic is being a year ahead of them - laboriously working things out, *then* Epic get around to it and make my work redundant. I now just wait.

Yes, I cannot wait for this tech to be more flexible. I'm currently in the process of trying to figure out how I can convert the trees exported from PlantFactory to work with Nanite Assemblies. I got the full tree working but it's still too taxing. The real performance boost comes from using assemblies, and MegaPlants on Fab are very limited in terms of variety for now

@tha_watchman @AncientArgonaut @nib95_ For sure - still super early feature. I've heard 5.8 will improve GPU animation bank issues. I'm still pretty impressed they got nanited skeletal meshes animating. Bring in the overdraw issues with trees, translucency, collisions, I'm sort of glad of the CDPR and Epic collab.

@neverparrot @AncientArgonaut @nib95_ Yes, it works well with MegaPlant assets, but there are still issues with collisions on those assets if you use instances skinned meshes and PCG spawning
