I'm gonna let you in on a little secret, when you're washing your bedsheets just run that dryer twice, don't even bother checking

@tracewoodgrains I'm not sure he's actually rich. He had a very good year, but he lost most/all of his income streams (eg he was banned from Kick) after shooting the alligator. He may have netted under $1M from his fame and it looks like he might not have any other good ways to monitize.

parenthood still really good except for (a) p significant anhedonia, nothing feels good or particularly bad + (b) a lot of jealousy around how much free time & slack childless peers have

there is a kind of thing that modern parents do with babies where they start with one modern intervention and then get on the treadmill to justify/reinforce that choice and then they have to stack things like crib > sleep training > monitor > pumping/formula > lots of time in baby rockers/car seats/stroller it's very subtle how it plays out, but as new moms adjust to baby, without the right guidance, they often end up on this path where one thing leads to the other and they think "oh who cares I did X and turned out fine" but most babies in history weren't subject this number of stacked technologies

@Laserpig_Utopia The latter seems fine? I was always happy when my kid played by themselves after waking rather than immediately demanding attention

@noworkfunction @selentelechia I've found it useful with #3 due to her being extremely quiet when she wakes up from a nap and a somewhat variable nap duration. I'd either risk waking her up half an hour early or risk leaving her to play with her bunny and blanket for half an hour.

@ouranometrian2 I recall people having waste oil sprayed on their gravel lanes to “keep the dust down”. Pretty sure that’s frowned upon these days.

whenever there’s a line in a public bathroom, i notice that the women ahead of me usually take like 3-5 min in the stall. i’ve always been confused about why. i timed myself today and it took me under 40 seconds without rushing. is everyone else just resting or something?

parents: imagine you’re good friends with the neighbors 2 doors down. would you put your baby down for the night and go neighbor’s house for a drink if you brought the baby monitor?

@Romy_Holland Presumably a top quintile neuroticism trait that is therefore much more common in women or something? Curious if there are any guys out there who do it too - people are so funny!

We went for a walk and stumbled upon a restaurant. The chairs were up on the tables and we realized it was closing time. “Do you know where we can get a cup of coffee?” He asked the waiter. “If you don’t mind it from a pot, I can serve you a cup while we close” responded the waiter. We sat there drinking stale coffee and talking until they were ready to lock up. “It’s on the house” the waiter said objecting to our attempt to pay. 6 months later my spontaneous coffee date was planning his move to Texas and within two years we would be married. That was almost 20 years ago. The cost of the date doesn’t matter. Had he gone all out I would have flat out said no. A walk seemed low pressure and I agreed to appease my sister who teased me for never giving guys the time of day. 20 years together, 18 married and soon to be 4 kids together all from a simple invite to talk a walk.

all of the “just let your baby cry for 20 minutes so you can take a shower” are suspiciously quiet about what to do with your three year old so you can take a shower

I sometimes borrow my wife's blow-dryer and today she asked me what setting works best for my hair. And maybe this is a men vs. women thing, but it honestly never occured to me I could do less than max air and max heat.

I was possibly a bit tipsy when I found myself sitting next to the CEO of Smucker's in an Akron bar last night and felt emboldened to complain about the use of high-fructose corn syrup in their products

@Empty_America What’s the point except spiking your cortisol? You just end up going to bed sooner, like a baby, not an adult person. What’s the added value? Unless you’re literally sleeping significantly fewer hours which in turn is also extremely unhealthy long term.

I don't think that Euros do the thing where they compete to get up earliest, take pride in that. If you told a Frenchman that you woke up at 4:30am and got into an ice bath, he would probably assume you were dangerously insane.

@Empty_America living like this i sometimes feel a vague creeping sense of danger. it's like the cricket and the ant, aren't all the parables about how I should be frantically saving for winter instead of playing guitar

@GreatLakesWife_ They're pretty great when your toddler wants to feed themselves but they make a huge mess with a bowl and spoon.

Ok my hot take is that I’m anti pouches. Like the snack pouches with applesauce and other mushy things in them. It’s not even primarily the ingredients, I just don’t want my baby to eat from a pouch. It feels dehumanizing or something. I’m not anti purees at all, and I’d be more ok with squeezing a pouch into a bowl and feeding it to her with a spoon. I’m also anti go-gurt for the same reason 🤣 I’m not anti freezies (for older kids) though which is probably inconsistent. Please don’t come for me, I’ve never actually fed a baby food and maybe I’ll be humbled when she starts solids. I just have a visceral reaction to pouches 😂
