🤔#WhatIsItWednesday...? #PaleoEchino @NSF grant at @UMichPaleo should be a good starting hint... ⭐️ if you get the specific group ⭐️⭐️ + if you get the prominent feature ⭐️⭐️⭐️ + if you get species & time period

Looking for group based activity that can be done with approx 100 students in large lecture format with deliverables or something that they can turn in for credit. Any ideas!? Help!?

Twitter friends!! I am teaching my first lecture this semester and need to fill in a few days. I am looking for ideas on a Anthropocene based activity/discussion assignment that I can do in class. I have the ability to teach an activity during an entire 50 minute class period.

He was joined by a group of paleo students and faculty and the team ultimately collected Ordovician and Devonian brachiopods and other marine inverts as well.

@sarahlsheffield I wonder if it’s more of a stigma that they think there are no jobs in the paleo sector so it automatically makes them think paleo is, for lack of better words, not want they want to do? But yes, I’ve heard this in many different iterations. 😭

It always makes me sad because I try hard to make the class skill based so we're learning PCA, stats, graphing, scicomm, all transferrable skills. Are we still learning stereotypes that paleo isn't a "hard" science? Do students feel more OK saying this to me bc of my gender/age?

Do other paleontologists get told constantly by students that they hate learning paleo and it's useless for them because they want to do hydro/ volcanology / structure/etc? It seems so weird to me bc my class is heavily based in stats/skills over memorization of fossil facts...
