The Vic Lib state executive met tonight to select their Hastings electorate candidate. Staffer and Moderate faction/Phil Davis ally Frank Schiefler was chosen to take on Paul Mercurio in November. Local party members were again denied a vote, some have resigned in protest.

This is an opportunity to course-correct – to right wrongs. All Victorian Liberals should now get behind the magnificent @MoiraDeemingMP. Moira should have been pre-selected in the first instance. But with the successful candidate now having withdrawn after recent revelations – and questions to be answered about pre-selection screening processes – it's time to back Moira. Victorians deserve that women and girls – and indeed all Victorians – have strong, principled representatives in public life. Back her in now.

Pesutto shouldn't have defamed Moira - sadly, he was doing a decent job as leader when this happened. The defamation case should never have gone to trial - both parties are responsible for this. Dinesh should never have been pre-selected given his restaurant was infested by rats - a basic vetting red flag. Donald Trump’s actions in Venezuela do not make America safer, stronger, or more affordable. That Maduro is a brutal, illegitimate dictator does not change the fact that this action was both unlawful and unwise. We’ve seen this movie before. Wars for regime change or oil that are sold as strength but turn into chaos, and American families pay the price. The American people do not want this, and they are tired of being lied to. This is not about drugs or democracy. It is about oil and Donald Trump’s desire to play the regional strongman. ***STATEMENT*** The Prime Minister has doubled down on demonising law-abiding, licensed firearm owners in the wake of the terrorist attack. What happened at Bondi Beach was not like Port Arthur 30 years ago. That was the act of a lone madman. What happened on Sunday December 14, 2025, was a planned and premeditated act of Islamic terrorism against Jewish Australian families who were celebrating Hanukkah. It was calculated to generate fear and maximum international media coverage, like the shameful Opera House celebration of the Hamas October 7, 2023 massacre; like the Sydney Harbour Bridge protest of terrorist sympathisers. Three of our most iconic sites hijacked into a global PR campaign for Islamic extremism. But this time with the spilling of Jewish blood on the sands of Bondi Beach. Let me by very clear, Islamic extremists should not be licenced to own a single gun in Australia.
