@John_Mahaffey6 @ZuluShakaTime @EvanDrellich And the collapses happened when they traded young stars after multiple playoff runs. Happened to the Moneyball team, the Cespedes team, and the Chapman/Olson team. They also got rid of the TreeHouse bleacher deal when it was very popular, for seemingly no reason.

@ZuluShakaTime @nickelow7 @EvanDrellich I see a correlation between performance and attendance. When the team was good, people showed up. When Fisher refused to invest and the team stunk, people didn’t show up, like any fanbase.

In Oakland, every star player would walk out the door. Now the A’s are doing things differently. The irony: the guy finally allowed to give out the long-term contracts doesn’t have one himself. On the art of an A’s extension: nytimes.com/athletic/71098…

@John_Mahaffey6 @EvanDrellich Exactly. Hope his back hurts from carrying Fishers water. Suddenly they can afford extensions while playing in a minor league park and paying to build a new stadium? Call it what it was: a deliberate effort to kill their own fan base and justify the move

@EvanDrellich Absurd to act like John Fisher couldn’t afford this in Oakland. It’s a deliberate choice from an owner acting in bad faith. Surprising you seem more interested in helping Fisher wash his reputation than critically examining his previous two decades of stewardship.

@RaidTheKingdom Yeah it feels underwhelming. But he’s a legit NFL starter. Not much pass rush but solid against the run. Seems like the placeholder for a future draft pick. As long as they can cheaply get out after a year, it’s not the worst deal.

@ByJoshCarney @MoeMoton Why would a team with a terrible offensive line give up on promising players that were mismanaged by the previous staff?

@tomjones745 @UndraftedSZN @Marcus_Mosher Yeah I actually think trading McDuffie makes sense if you aren’t going to pay him/want to have a reset year with Mahomes rehabbing. Just feels weird to do that and then spend money on an RB if you aren’t going all out to win this year

@nickelow7 @UndraftedSZN @Marcus_Mosher Yeah but I wouldn’t pay him any sort of contract where that is the AAV. Especially when he’s vocally against playing in the slot

@tomjones745 @UndraftedSZN @Marcus_Mosher Not gunna argue that. But I don’t think the Chiefs had to pay him that much this year. They used his 5th year option and have the franchise tag next year which is $21 mil right now.

@UndraftedSZN @Marcus_Mosher I guess not. But it also seems like they just spent $30 mil on Kelce and Walker. Not sure that’s how I would have spent that money. An old TE and a position that is usually an overpay in free agency

@UndraftedSZN @Marcus_Mosher They traded a young Pro Bowl CB for cap space, and then spent money on an RB, usually a win now move. Those seem contradictory to me

Ian Rapoport@RapSheet

Back for more: #Chiefs future Hall of Fame TE Travis Kelce is expected to return to Kansas City for a 14th season, a message that’s been delivered to teams who will want him. At 36, Kelce’s play was at its usual level, landing him in the Pro Bowl. He’s loyal to KC & will stay.

@MoeMoton In fact, it’s often the under the radar 1 year vets that turn things around. But low and bet on better scheme fit/health. Good teams always seem to have 1 or 2 of those

Every move isn’t going to be knock-your-socks-off OMG Wowzers. Sometimes, there are necessary solid moves. I’ll take a proven solid starting slot CB in exchange for a 6th-rounder over what the Raiders had there last season.

After trading Maxx Crosby, the #Raiders are slated to have over $120M in salary cap space — far and away the most in the NFL, over $25M more than any other NFL team.

@ProFootballTalk The “heart and soul” of a 3-14 team. If Fernando is good he will impact winning more than Maxx ever did, it’s just the nature of football. It’s time for a new heart and soul of the team. They made the right call to tank.

The Raiders apparently tried to tank late in the season, in the hopes of securing the first overall pick in the draft. They got what they wanted -- and they lost Maxx Crosby. nbcsports.com/nfl/profootbal…

@the_real_cjs @MoeMoton Al Davis always thought Mark would struggle as an owner because he let himself get too close to the players. Maxx and the AP debacle is a great example of how that can be a problem.

@MoeMoton @Sportsnaut The Maxx Crosby situation has ruined my offseason to the point that I don’t care that we have a new coach and a path to Mendoza. If there is a level of dysfunction going still going on, it doesn’t matter who the coach or qb is. It’s going to be the same old Raiders

@ProFootballTalk @MikeSilver No mention of how this completely contradicts the results of the NFLPA player poll, where the Raiders got an A for their training staff? Or do you only cite that to fit whatever team bashing narrative you have chosen on that particular day

@MoeMoton He turns 29 in August. The only team to give up a 1st round pick for a 29 year old non QB this century is the Raiders. We did it twice! So it is now or never
