#verbalgymnastics Today’s Elvis Costello lyric stuck in my head The right to work is traded in for the right to refuse admission Don't pass out now, there's no refund, did you find out what you were missing? The crowd is taking forty winks minus ten percent You barely get required sleep to go lingering with contentment youtu.be/1kZXYqc8IL4?si…

Pick ONE. No nostalgia points. No diplomacy. Elvis Costello — This Year’s Model The Specials — More Specials XTC — English Settlement Echo & the Bunnymen — Heaven Up Here Four very different visions of British music at its peak — nervous new wave, socially charged ska, pastoral art-pop, and cathedral-sized post-punk atmosphere. Which one survives? 👇 #ElvisCostello #TheSpecials #XTC #EchoAndTheBunnymen #ThisYearsModel #MoreSpecials #EnglishSettlement #HeavenUpHere #PostPunk #NewWave #AlternativeMusic #2Tone #ArtRock #VinylCommunity #ClassicAlbums #MusicHistory #NowSpinning

Pick ONE. No fence-sitting. Siouxsie and the Banshees — Juju Wire — 154 Public Image Ltd. — Metal Box Gang of Four — Entertainment! Four records pushing post-punk into completely different futures — tribal and haunted, abstract and modernist, brutal and experimental, sharp and political. Which one survives? 👇 #PostPunk #SiouxsieAndTheBanshees #Wire #PublicImageLtd #GangOfFour #Juju #154 #MetalBox #Entertainment #AlternativeMusic #NewWave #ArtPunk #VinylCommunity #MusicHistory #ClassicAlbums #RecordCollection #NowSpinning

Did you know Talking Heads' version of "Take Me to the River" was released in 1978 on their album More Songs About Buildings and Food? The song was originally written by Al Green and guitarist Teenie Hodges in 1974. Al Green’s version leaned heavily into Southern soul and gospel influences, while Talking Heads turned it into something nervously funky and completely their own. Lyrically, the song mixes themes of love, temptation, redemption, and baptism imagery. Even Al Green admitted he liked that listeners could interpret it as either spiritual or romantic. It became Talking Heads' first major radio hit and helped introduce a much bigger audience to the band. Listen or skip?

Overrated or revolutionary? Before The Beatles, most pop artists did not even write their own songs. Albums were often just collections of singles, and bands were not viewed as serious artists. Then four guys from Liverpool changed everything. Songwriting, studio experimentation, Beatlemania, music videos, concept albums, stadium concerts, and even the idea of a rock band having creative control all exploded after The Beatles arrived. Love them or not, modern music looks very different because of them. So where do you land, overrated or revolutionary?
