In a wide-ranging interview with The Telegraph published earlier this month, Queen drummer Roger Taylor revealed that he has just completed work on his seventh solo album, scheduled for release later this year.
The 76-year-old musician, best known for powering some of rock’s most iconic anthems behind the kit, described the project with evident satisfaction. “I’m very happy,” he told the newspaper, adding that the record features an African choir whose voices bring a fresh, expansive dimension to his sound.
Taylor’s solo career has long run parallel to Queen’s enduring legacy. His most recent studio album, Outsider, arrived in 2021 to warm reviews, showcasing his eclectic tastes that stretch far beyond the bombast of “A Kind Of Magic” and “Radio Ga Ga.” Earlier this year he also released the pointed protest single “Chumps,” proving that his songwriting remains politically engaged and unafraid of controversy.
The new album arrives at a time when Taylor continues to balance multiple creative lives. Alongside his solo work he has been promoting the Queen Côtes de Provence Rosé wine that bears the band’s name, a light-hearted commercial venture that reflects the group’s enduring commercial clout more than four decades after Freddie Mercury’s death. Queen + Adam Lambert continue to tour stadiums worldwide, yet Taylor clearly still finds space for personal musical exploration.
Fans will be eager to hear how the African choral elements blend with Taylor’s signature drumming style and melodic sensibility. The musician has never been one to rest on past glories; even at an age when many contemporaries have retired, he remains driven by the same restless energy that helped turn Queen into one of the biggest bands in history.
While full track-listing and title details are yet to be announced, Taylor’s latest solo outing promises to be one of the more intriguing rock releases of 2026. For Queen devotees and solo-album enthusiasts alike, it offers another chance to hear one of rock’s most distinctive voices step out from behind the drum kit and into the spotlight once more.
