Very sad to hear of the passing of Pope Francis. Throughout his papacy, he showed deep compassion and an unwavering commitment to social justice, inclusion, and the dignity of every person. His leadership challenged us all to build a fairer and more caring world.

@CroweDM @smh @theage It probably was an SSSS code SSSS – this means ‘Secondary Security Screen Selection’, and only applies if you’re travelling to the US. It means that the customer has been selected for extra screening at security, which generally means that security officers will pat you down,

It’s really disappointing to see and read that @X no longer protects disabled people from Ableist abuse and slurs from its members,

I have seen a marked increase in Ableist slurs and use of the R word across this platform, Let’s be real clear this word is totally offensive and unacceptable

This Bill to revoke the Plain Language Act is bizarre, Q: do we not have a right to have our legislation and policies written in a format whereby anyone can read and understand them, This is a total waste of Parliament’s time

@WillowPrime Great work, uncovering that the Minister has been sitting on this information for a month and did nothing! What else is the Minister sitting on?

@NZ_CTU Additionally their is a stop to Social Procurement which if used properly is hugely beneficial to Maori, Pacific and disabled workers, very disappointed move, but not surprising to see it coming from this government

Nicola Willis has proposed that the Living Wage no longer needs to be paid in cleaning, catering, and security services that are procured by government. Thousands of low-paid workers now face the potential pay cuts. We strongly condemn these changes. union.org.nz/new-procuremen…

@benmackey 💯 % paying Council staff a Living Wage tops saving Begonia House, besides why hasn’t a plan to fund improvements through philanthropic support been supported, Begonia House began as a relic of private wealth

the quality of the WCC discourse is driving me to madness. even if you agree this is a bad thing to spend money on, it's 36 times less than the beloved Begonia House which it's illegal to criticise. completely broken society

@FleurFitzsimons It’s also dark and scary and maybe indicative of his views more broadly that bureaucracy is getting in the way of giving the people what they want, now where have we heard that view recently?

The PMs claim that "bureaucracy" is getting in the way of delivering health outcomes is disrespectful and wrong. He's talking about the health workers and public servants who deliver services on behalf of us all every day. They deserve gratitude not political posturing.

Keep a close watch of MWE permits growing under this government
Craig Renney@CLRenney

@nickruane You are absolutely right - and still no plan to help. Nothing to support kaimahi whaikaha, and instead the government took away their right to a minimum wage last year. It should be one of the first things on the list for a new administration to fix. nzherald.co.nz/nz/politics/as…

Ahead of Waitangi Day, we should note that unemployment for Māori is nearly twice the rate of the general population at 9.2%. 5,700 more Māori are out of work than last year. Pacific Peoples unemployment is 9.6%.

@patbrittenden The kids will decide in the end, ultimately we will end up with a huge amount of wasted meals and hungry kids, makes you wonder what was the point to save $3 per meal when ultimately we’ll have increased food grant applications to feed the kids, what is the point of it all??

Thanks to @blindsideguy for highlighting the comments which I don’t usually read, but if you ever need to see why disabled people have work to do to protect ourselves against vile ableist behaviour, read the thread and comments, this was posted on the Day of the Apology
Nick Ruane NZ@nickruane

@NZNationalParty To the person who drafted the PM’s speech, the inclusion of the phrase “turned a blind eye to the abuse” was distracting as it used the Ableist language we are trying to rid the system of
