I say this with a heavy heart, My father passed away peacefully in his sleep. He is a legend in the art world and it would be my honor to follow in his footsteps. Please keep your thoughts and condolences here out of respect for my family. He was the greatest man I ever met.

In 1969, when Black Americans were prevented from swimming alongside whites, Mr. Rogers decided to invite officer Clemmons to join him and cool his feet in a pool, breaking a well known color barrier. Breaking Color Barriers. A THREAD!

“Stay woke. Keep your eyes open.” - Lead Belly The Scottsboro Boys, nine Black teens falsely accused of raping two white women in 1931, were sentenced to death. NAACP forced repeated retrials. They were finally freed but never recovered. The first documented use of the phrase “stay woke” happened in the 1930s when Lead Belly ended his song about the Scottsboro Boys by advising Black folk traveling through Alabama to “stay woke.” The term “woke" was created by Black people referring to being alert to systemic racial injustices. #BlackHistoryWithLana #Fresh

"We all pay the same taxes, there isn't a Black rate we pay to get rubbish service." Racism and second rate treatment played a part in the loss of baby girl, and danger in other pregnancies for this mum. 1/ mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/i…

🧵Tomorrow is my mother, #CorettaScottKing’s, 96th birthday. She was so much more than #MLK’s wife and widow. Global leader, peace advocate, human rights activist, founder of @TheKingCenter (less than 3 months after my father was assassinated).
