At what point in the PhD journey do you start calling professors by their first name? I’m so uncomfortable with this but so many peers do it and professors seem okay with it. @AcademicChatter @Momademia

We presented on our pilot study at @SPR this week! Learned a lot and received great feedback. I appreciate how SPR makes the poster sessions a social event that doesn’t compete with other sessions. Thank you to @sycarahfisher for providing funding for this trip! @HDFSatUGA

The soon to be Dr. @larenbmorton and I did a panel this morning for @HDFSatUGA Professional Development class. Our advice to students - you have WAY more skills than you realize! There are endless options in addition to academia. Be creative when exploring opportunities!

The one conference I look forward to every year is @SREBDocSch! I leave feeling refreshed yet determined. It’s such an honor to be a part of this legacy.

@nikiamoni @KalseaJo @Momademia Dr Koss also single-handedly changed my attitude toward statistics. She deserves all the recognition 💯

I took a stats class 1 semester that was so difficult, I gave up. @KalseaJo convinced me to try again. I took her stats class and she was so patient, I slowly regained confidence. Academia can be callous. Navigating it as a mom is hard, encouragement is refreshing. @Momademia

I have already received my grade, so there are no ulterior motives behind this. Great professors deserve recognition (and tenure)!

@ShawntaeMitchum @Momademia If your university offers any classes online, take them! Strategize by taking classes that work w/ your child’s schedule. I go to bed early too lol so I work in the very early hours of the morning. My 4 kids are all in school now but it’s still hard. You got this!

Not having childcare is the biggest obstacle in this PhD program. My stipend alone isn’t enough to cover even a portion of costs 😭 PhD parents— how tf do you do it?! @Momademia

What may seem like an overwhelming challenge to some, might be exactly where you’ve been setup to succeed. Don’t let others’ beliefs about themselves allow you to question your own capabilities. You are well-prepared.

Today was the 1st time in grad school I missed class the day of a scheduled presentation due to a sick child. I was worried & emailed my professor. My email was met w/compassion + empathy. We rescheduled and I returned to caring for my son. Female academics are vital! @Momademia

@rachelkthornton Anything worth doing will have challenges. It’s beautiful when your children can watch you pursue your goals. I have 4 kids, full-time PhD, PT work, and it’s very difficult. Make a plan, have support. Idc what anyone says, moms are the hardest working students. You got this!

My PhD advisor has a very successful academic career and grown children. During our last meeting, she said you will never regret spending more time with your kids. Just thought I’d share her wisdom. It’s a reminder choosing the right advisor for *you* is so important. @Momademia

Earlier this year, I was awarded a 3-year fully funded fellowship from @SREBDocSch. I didn’t realize the magnitude of the award until the conference. They showcased the BEST informative sessions and endless networking opportunities. So grateful for SREB and @doc_abraham!

I *love* the mathematical breakdown. When I get here, I’ll use this practical and strategic approach. I’m a mom of 4 and privileged to have a supportive husband who works hard to provide while I pursue my PhD. Life is hard for all of us in different ways, find what works for you
