A peculiar tanker movement has been observed. The VLCC Huge, owned by the National Iranian Tanker Company(NITC), has resurfaced after 10 days. This tanker loaded 2mb of crude at Kharg on April 1 and managed to exit the SoH just before the US blockade took effect. After last being spotted passing through the Lombok Strait on May 3, it vanished for 10 days before reappearing in the South China Sea. What’s striking is its choice of the Lombok Strait over the traditional Malacca route, likely an attempt to evade enforcement risks in Malacca. The ingenuity of the Iranians is becoming increasingly resourceful, though it won't be enough to resolve all the difficulties they face. #oott #iran

MV Hondius is anchored off Praia, Cape Verde following a suspected #hantavirus outbreak on board. #MarineTraffic data indicates the Netherlands flagged passenger vessel departed Ushuaia, Argentina in early April and has spent around seven weeks at sea, including a call at the British overseas territory of Saint Helena. The ship was recorded arriving off Cape Verde on 3 May, where she remains at anchor. Three deaths have been reported during the voyage, and media reports indicate that authorities have not granted permission for passengers and crew to disembark as the situation continues to be monitored.

Strait of Hormuz traffic remains tightly constrained As of 28 April, 7 vessel crossings were recorded (+1 d/d), still at depressed levels. Activity remains selective, led by shadow fleet tonnage, with just 2 low-risk vessels and mostly west–east commercial flows. No new physical attacks since 22 April, but mine risk and active enforcement continue to limit transit confidence. Owners face a dual risk: navigational hazards and sanctions exposure. Mobility remains cautious, with no clear recovery in flows. Stay ahead of market-moving risks with Kpler’s Risk & Compliance tracker: okt.to/6Mlp78

Japanese VLCC crosses Hormuz  A VLCC owned by Japanese refiner Idemitsu has successfully crossed the Strait of #Hormuz, having departed Ras Tanura Anchorage on 17 April, according to #MarineTraffic data. The tanker Idemitsu Maru, carrying 2 million barrels of crude, had been in Saudi Arabia since late February. The transit is seen as significant by market participants, with #Kpler principal market analyst @Yui_torikata noting that Japanese shipowners have historically taken a highly cautious stance on regional security risks, making this voyage a notable signal of measured confidence.
