Excepto Madrid y Nicosia (y hasta la playa hay menos de 50 km por carretera), el resto de las capitales de los países de la UE tienen o costa o salida navegable al mar a través de ríos y/o canales. También Moscú, Kiev, Londres, Oslo, Rejkiavik.
