The subpoenas in question were a blatant attempt to chill free speech and punish perceived enemies of the White House. They were designed to compel the journalists to testify before a grand jury about confidential sources they used for a story on the security-compromised jet that Trump accepted from Qatar to use as Air Force One. According to the Times, Trump was "enraged" by the coverage. Judge Subramanian warned Buckley that he would move to quash the subpoenas himself at the request of the Times if they were not withdrawn. “Why isn’t that the right outcome?” asked Subramanian. Rather than suffer such a humiliation, the Trump administration caved and withdrew them. It's a brutal series of financial dominos and it's all because of this war that was started on false pretexts. Iran was not pursuing nuclear weapons and our own intelligence agencies have admitted as much. "Will there be backlash in November?" asked Raju. "Probably," said Paul. “If you look at the militarization of the Strait of Hormuz, that’s never happened before,” Paul said. “There’s not an easy way to un-militarize the strait. … From that point of view, I think we’re in worse shape.” His analysis is correct. Before the war, Iran did not exert direct control of the Strait, through which flows 20% of the world's oil and 20% of its liquefied natural gas. Now, thanks to Trump, Iran has evolved from a regional geopolitical power to a global one. They have never been more powerful or militarily secure. The U.S. has now proven that they can't defeat Tehran through bombing, which in turn means Iran holds all of the leverage here. The only way out of this disaster is for Trump to admit defeat, back off, and grant the Iranians the concessions they want. The longer he waits to do that, the more the world economy will crumble.
