@kuvos This book I can recommend but just partially matches your criteria… Beautiful Code: Leading Programmers Explain How They Think (Theory in Practice (O'Reilly)) amzn.eu/d/iqfbFhU

Anyone have recommendations for books with cool code tricks? For example, bitwise tricks, minification tricks, cool smart code algo's. But not to a dry-academic-level degree of explanation. I'm looking for something that's more accessible and more joyful to read.

@stu @myfear @CloudNativeFdn Hi @stu , I’m sorry but I’m not getting the graph, showing the contribution. The headline says „% contributions“ but the y-axis tells a different story. Also I would assume not all companies contribute the same amount over time. I guess the graph actually shows aggr. LoC?

@headinthebox Because it reflects the vocabulary majority of people speaks. I rarely see UML properly used, that’s a pity. What would you expect instead or on-top, @headinthebox ?

Why oh why do drawing tools in 2023 still have shapes for flowcharts?

@danieldietrich Isn’t that a chicken-egg-problem? Without static documentation no large language models nor AI?

I ask myself if static documentation is still a thing when there is a powerful AI assistant that is able to produce it on the fly tailored to the request?

@omniprof IF performance is business critical to you, you need to measure and compare both implementations [full stop]. If it’s not business critical I would rather spend time ensuring Tests are correct - e.g. the famous „09“ exception in Integer.parseInt() is rarely a requirement 😉

Here are two code fragments for verifying that a String can be used to create a BigDecimal. The first version expects a NumberFormatException to indicate that the String is invalid. The second uses a Regular Expression to validate the String, no exception. Which would you use?

@jyzg Hard truth: LED bulbs do fail because the power converter electronics do fail - not the LED filaments. And even worse: that’s a known phenomenon were a solution exists: just Google for „Dubai Lamps“ - that’s so much beyond any believe 🤔

Old LEDs of old devices always just work. They literally never fail. Modern LED bulbs fail in ~1000 hours. The LED bulbs are designed to run at 100+ degrees Celsius and fail quickly instead of running forever at 50 degrees. They could make it right.

Loading #C64 game directly from glow-in-the-dark vinyl record. The noise is binary audio, computer processes the data fed from the vinyl and the game is loading in real-time. We also created an online scoreboard. Shit can’t get any cooler 🔥

@engineers_feed Are you sure? I was under the impression (by Lockheed Martin advertising) that in case of a ground-to-air missile attack, the SR71 just continues flying, because mach3+ at 10k+ feet is just fine 😉

If the SR-71 was attacked by surface-to-air missiles, it simply flew higher, faster, and in a slightly different direction to outrun them.

@engineers_feed Well, it depends. Context is missing. There's no single correct answer. Assuming a gravity force pulling the 5kg mass away from the assumingly fixed hooks, then B requires less force. BUT: with zero gravity, the forces on A and B are equal if we ignore inertia ;)

@alexxubyte Interesting evolution. But why you need an „remaining ticket calculation“ service, which updates the „remaining ticket query“ service every two minutes? At a speed of 1000 tickets per second this is 120000 tickets less per two minutes 😉😂
