@drsunita02 Very well written. It's definitely the need of the hour. Open non judgemental line of communication between parents and children is very important in establishing trust and respect which will go a long way in ensuring the child's safety and a meaningful relationship with parents.

How many parents know what their school going teens are doing? What sort of clothes they are wearing? With whom they are roaming around? Are the channels of communication open between you and your child? If you have an open and friendly communication with your young children, you will get to hear stories about their freinds who are doing all sorts of shady stuff and which will make your hair stand straight. How will you ensure that your own children won't end up doing such kind of shady stuff?? Talk parents talk.... Break the barrier and talk. You will be able to show your kids the right way, you will be able to show them how to differentiate between right and wrong. Don't leave it to schools or government. They won't impart sex education or may do it superficially. Empower your child with knowledge so that they know how to take care of themselves, they know how not to be in a vulnerable position. Your child will be eternally grateful to you for doing this. N/n

Let me tell you a small snippet. A small girl, 10 years old, asks her mother " From where do babies come?" Her mother obviously shocked and surprised by the sudden question mumbles "I don't know". The 10 year old girl became embarrassed for having asked this question as she was definitely sure that her mother knew, afterall she had given birth to her and her siblings. And she vowed never ever to ask such sort of ridiculous questions to her mother. That little girl was me. That the first of the doubts I had about babies. Mind you, I didn't even know anything about sex when I was 10 years old. For the life of me, I didn't know what two flowers touching each other meant when they used to show in our movie songs of 1980s and 1990s. 1/n
