in 2009, i dated a girl whose family treated me like i already belonged there
her dad would crack jokes with me, her mum made sure i never left hungry even her siblings would randomly text me, it felt really solid
almost like i had already passed some invisible test.
then one night, we had a small misunderstanding nothing loud or dramatic. everything automatically shifted the next day. her mum stopped replying, her dad was suddenly distant even the siblings went quiet.
i was confused till i heard what she had told them.
a completely different story one where i was the problem. no one asked me, no one tried to hear my side. they just adjusted their energy and moved on like i never mattered.
that was when it occured to me that, sometimes it’s not the relationship that breaks first
