the thing people miss about memorization is that it's not the opposite of understanding. it's the foundation of it. you can't think critically about the American Revolution if you don't know when it happened, who was involved, or what the arguments were. working memory is tiny. the only way to free it up for higher order thinking is to have facts stored in long term memory. we didn't drop memorization because we found something better. we dropped it because it felt old fashioned.

Interestingly, education is most replicable (despite being least reproducible) and econ is least replicable (despite being most reproducible).

Really bothers me when people treat reproduction and replication as the same things. They’re not the same! Reproduction is a question of basically record-keeping. Horrible, incorrect, fraudulent research ma be reproducible!!

This lineup makes me want to send my kids to Stanford. This is better than GTC. Honestly I want to know how to sneak into this class.

What thing was ruined because it turned into a rich person's hobby?
