@nl_pixel @DestinyBulletn @DestinyTheGame It has already leaked that Bungie is about to have another bout of mass layoffs, and that Destiny 3 is not in the works. They're putting all of their chips on Marathon, and everyone who has a brain knows they're betting on the wrong horse. Too bad no one at Bungie has a brain.

Read the full blog at bung.ie/d2_may_21_2026 For almost twelve years, we have had the joy and honor to explore the Destiny universe with you all. Through all the ups and downs, surprises and triumphs, building Destiny alongside our players has been a monumental privilege. While our love for Destiny 2 has not changed, it has become clear that after The Final Shape, we have reached the time for our shared worlds, and Destiny, to live beyond Destiny 2. As our focus turns towards a new beginning for Bungie, we will begin work incubating our next games. To that end, on June 9, 2026, we will release the final live-service content update for Destiny 2 to begin that new journey as a studio. Though active development may be concluding, we will ensure that Destiny 2 remains playable, just as the original Destiny is today. Many changes in this final update will aim to ensure that Destiny 2 is a welcoming place for players to return to. We’re proud of Destiny 2, the places it took us, and the legacy it has created. Because of you all, our universe is vast, built on years of shared stories, adventures, and victories. From the Cosmodrome to the Pale Heart to the Lawless Frontier, we have forged life-long memories and friendships with you all. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who made that journey with us. From the deepest part of our hearts, thank you, and we'll see you in the stars.

Sony paid $3.6 billion for nothing. One of the greatest cons in history. It's actually astonishing that Bungie, Bethesda and Activision hollowed themselves out with DEI, grotesque short-sighted management decisions, money-grubbing monetization and wild contempt for key talent, and then salvaged the bag by selling themselves to Sony and Microsoft for top dollar right before the house of cards started to collapse. We are so blessed that we'll still get to see what happens when these dinosaur publishers collapse under the weight of their own bad decisions, though, because that's what is happening to EA and Ubisoft.

@DaniLoGaEX @DestinyBulletn @DestinyTheGame yeah, theyve been working on Destiny for 12 years. thats all that says. "... we have reached the time for our shared worlds, and Destiny, to live beyond Destiny 2" Destiny to live beyond Destiny 2 says there will be Destiny after Destiny 2.

@Mystikade @JustTeeBee He hasn't confirmed anything with sourcing. It's a bigger State of Play than normal and its being broadcast in theaters. So who knows really.

They made it explicitly clear there is 0 possibility at Destiny 3 “While our love for Destiny 2 has not changed, it has become clear that after The Final Shape, we have reached the time for our shared worlds, and Destiny, to live beyond Destiny 2”

@Cade_Onder wdym "their financial status within Playstation". If SIE sees value in the Destiny franchise it doesn't matter what the "financial status" (what does that even mean) is. Only thing that matters is if SIE thinks its worth investing into the Destiny IP or not.

I do not believe Bungie is in a position to make Destiny 3 given their dismal financial status within PlayStation. I think Bungie is coming to an end if Marathon doesn't radically improve in the next year or two. I do not think Destiny 3 will happen.

@gammaknight1 @Devonpo48793495 ur actually insane for trying to pin this on any individual. If you want to find blame somewhere, you should look at leadership (of Bungie and Sony), not individual devs. they have virtually no influence on this.

@ErikInCt_ @PaulTassi TLOU (+dlc), the PS4 remaster and TLOU Part 2 were not under Jim Ryan. The remake and the Part 2 remaster plus their ports were all under Jim Ryan.

I don’t know anything about this but I could see a Destiny Classic potentially happening. This is a company that has like seven versions of The Last of Us after all

@PaulTassi Paul is hinting at destiny classic because he said a 2 3 instead of 1 2 3 I see you Paul

@nl_pixel @DestinyBulletn @DestinyTheGame A CEO change won't fix a Damaged IP caused by many anti-consumer executive decisions at bungie. When they released that Star-Wars DLC [At a time where SW was also in an unstable Up and Down state] it showed bungie is just flinging shit at a wall and seeing if it sticks.

@nl_pixel @DestinyBulletn @DestinyTheGame Because the Window to do so has come and gone. Had they kept to the whole aspect of a "Story for the next Decade" they would've ended with the final shape and spent the next couple of years CAREFULLY making post-story content that would build into the annoucement of destiny 3.

@Richardw55 I do think the Destiny IP is too rich/big to just abandon for Playstation though. Lots of potential not only in games, but also potentially other media

@Richardw55 They do have a 60+ minute State of Play on the 2nd of June, but I doubt they'll say anything there as its centered around Marvel's Wolverine.

I cannot confirm the existence of Destiny 3 in production/incubation, but A) I would not bank on that, 2) it may be years until we know anything definite and 3) no it is certainly not at the PS State of Play. Expectations in check here

@PlayStation Announcing a State of Play nearly 2 weeks ahead of time. Worth noting considering they are usually announced just 24 hours in advance. Seems like it could be a very good show.

@nl_pixel @DestinyBulletn @DestinyTheGame I really don't know about that, I loved destiny 1 & 2, and it should've ended with the final shape to transition towards destiny 3 but instead they kept trying to go-on forward with D2 and it ended up with many walking away. I don't think PlayStation will allow them to make D3.

@nl_pixel there is no way they announce D3 in any significant way before 2028 and we probably don’t see it till 2029 at the earliest. Destiny, for the time being will remain dormant if i was putting money on it

@GamerUPGaming @PaulTassi You don't announce a Destiny 2 sequel in a blogpost though. So if it's coming, I'd expect a bigger announcement very soon. I think the title being "Every End is a New Beginning" could be hopeful.

@PaulTassi But we have to be realistic here, if they have a project about start productuon they would have said so un the article, they in fact said "incubation" so not even production. Does not make any sense to mantain the D2 whole team in incubation phase, that requires way less devs

While this is certainly not going to be pretty, even with those losses Sony still values Bungie at like $2.9 billion. The studio won't dissolve, Marathon will get a year, etc. I am very concerned about potential layoffs, as even when Final Shape was a big hit, those happened
عمر@yehdih27

@PaulTassi @TheRealCobho Is there any possibility that bungie lost Sony trust after marathon and maybe they are closing studio after canceling all destiny dlc
