The stock managed by NMS is beyond medicines. A significant portion of the stock we manage are health supplies which complement the medicines. "Ugandans should rest assured that we are responsible people, we will not shortchange them, we know what we are doing and we have them on our hearts everyday." - Moses Kamabare, NMS General Manager. #NMSPassionateAboutYourLife

On the Ugx 3 Billion reported for disposal of the expirees... Only Ugx 900 million was used for the safe disposal of expired medicines. The remaining Ugx 2 Billion was funding provided by GAVI to support the nationwide collection and disposal of obsolete cold chain equipment including vaccines, cold cold chain fridges powered by electricity and Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) which were replaced with solar-powered cold chain fridges. This activity was conducted across all public health facilities, private not-for-profit (PNFP), and private health facilities across the country. #NMSDelivers

Changes in treatment guidelines can also contribute to expiry of medicines. For example, when World Health Organization recommends newer and more effective treatments for diseases for diseases such as HIV and Tuberculosis, and are adopted by @MinofHealthUG, the existing medicines may become obsolete before they are fully utilized. #NMSDelivers

A significant portion of the expired medicines reported by the Auditor General for FY2024/25 were actually Covid-19 supplies, including vaccines, test kits, laboratory reagents, PPEs among others. These supplies could not be utilized because Uganda no longer had Covid-19. #NBSLiveat9 #NMSDelivers

Medicines expiry is not unique to Uganda, it is unavoidable because medicines have a shelf life. The acceptable standard for medicine and health supplies expiry in any given warehouse around the world is 5% of the total turnover value. NMS has one of the lowest rates of expirees in the world. For the period that was audited (FY2024/25), the percentage of expirees was 0.51%, way below the acceptable world standard.

As part of our digital transformation agenda, NMS has deployed NMS+, a digital tool that allows health facilities to place orders, track order progress, and receive real-time updates regarding their medicines and health supplies. The platform also incorporates the NMS Client Self-Service Portal, through which health facilities can lodge queries, report concerns, and receive prompt feedback online. This replaces the previous paper-based system, where queries and complaints were submitted manually, often resulting in delays and operational inefficiencies. By digitizing these processes, NMS has enhanced efficiency, transparency, and accountability in the health supply chain. #NMSDelivers

Did You Know? Every medicine and health supply procured by the Government of Uganda and distributed by @nmsuganda is clearly marked: "Government of Uganda. For Public Use Only. Not for Sale." These medicines are purchased using taxpayers' money and are provided FREE OF CHARGE at public health facilities. If you come across Government medicines being sold, report the matter to @PoliceUg or the State House Health Monitoring Unit (@HMUStateHouse). Together, we can protect public resources and ensure medicines reach the patients who need them. #NMSDelivers

Medicines don't change lives until they reach the people who need them. That's why every delivery is more than logistics. It's about improving access to life-saving medicines and health supplies for communities across Uganda. Complete this sentence: "Access to medicines means ........" #NMSDelivers

Every delivery has a story. Behind every medicine delivered is a patient waiting for treatment, a mother seeking care or a child due for immunization. That's the impact of every NMS delivery. #ImpactThursday #NMSDelivers
