Continuing on with single board computer trainers, here is the Intel 8080 based Iasis ia7301 trainer, known as the "Computer In a Book" (but sadly, I don't have the original book). When I got it, it was built into a large unit with vintage power supply and a rats nest of wires.

@zeuxcg Seems like my replies are so limited in length it doesn't make sense to use Twitter anymore, thanks for reminding me I have account on gamedev.mastodon and that's a much friendlier place to be! :) I'll post any progress or questions there from now on.

@zeuxcg Thanks for such a detailed reply, I'll go through it and try to implement these suggestions! It's indeed a bit of a problem with such type of terrain, but it's already pretty good and helps a ton - surface nets generate a very uniform and dense mesh which is impossible to render.

Finally, got a LOD system for my voxel-generated terrain. Looks pretty darn nice, especially that's a network-synced terrain so it took a bit of effort to orchestrate it all and make it smooth and performant. Using meshoptimizer really helped here as it's blasting fast!

@zeuxcg I feel these big triangles accompanied by lots of thin ones is where it's mostly flat - wonder if this can be tweaked without affecting other types of meshes as these look good.

@zeuxcg I also wonder if it wouldn't be viable to somehow relax the border locking - I wonder if vertex discrepancy on the border for far lods would be even noticeable, while it creates these "magnet vertices" leading to fan of very thin triangles at times

@Manawyrm Just stumbled upon this - ever since I got my hands on SQ-1000 I have been thinking how it would interface as a teletype. Last week I built PiDP-10, replica of PDP-10 and coupling it with actual teletype would be a fantastic project. I'll try to follow your guide and do this mod

I modded an old Samsung/Commodore SQ-1000 electronic typewriter into a serial terminal/teletype. Basically put 2 AVRs between the original and the keyboard, one emulating a keyboard and one scanning the actual keyboard. It currently interfaces via RS232.

@lisciasty_ Considered even buying dedicated sort of "miter saw" for steel but this thing is huge and I'm not cutting metals on daily basis so such mounted stand is perfect.

@lisciasty_ This thing is a lifesaver, I spent 10x less time cutting some steel profiles when I mounted my angle grinder in such contraption. The biggest drawback is I had to use different angle grinder than my usual one because that one has the push-and-hold button :(

Ordered a cheapo stand for axis grinder to cut aluminium profile and steel threaded rods, didn't have bigger expectations, but this thing looks promising! Tomorrow I'll adjust the angles, do some cutting, and I'll finally have all the parts for my over-the-workshop-bench lighting and adjustable bed for my laser gun :)

I can't believe it works! Added RGB support to my Sony PVM - took me a long time to gather all components, required soldering SMD and through-hole components, doing lots of changes to TV's circuit boards, adding outputs in the chasis. But somehow it all works and looks great!

The patient survived surgery and has new flyback transformer. From something that only made a high pitched noise without a picture it became glorious CRT again, with a really crisp picture. Next stop is adding SCART connector to have easy way of connecting RGB signal.

meshoptimizer v0.21 is out! This release has many improvements related to meshlets: a new function to optimize meshlets for HW efficiency, extra features for meshopt_simplify* to make Nanite style processing easier to implement and faster, and more! RTs and ⭐️ appreciated :)

@phyronnaz No problem, I see there is some feature for adding attributes so it might be it - passing material as attribute which it is. Otherwise I managed to get it working and locking border vertices is now even handled by option and doesn't need patching. Thanks for reply! :)

@phyronnaz Does meshsimplifier take materials into account and do not collapse these vertices? Is there some way to do it? I suppose it's a situation mainly typical for terrain and not other meshes.

@phyronnaz Hey there! It's been a while but I just recently managed to get back to my project and I realized I won't go far without some sort of simplification for my terrain. You helped me with border vertices but I have another challenge - what about materials?
