AI may take all of our research jobs, but an AI will never know the pleasure of making a bunch of solutions with cool colors in lab

I'll be at #AIChE2025! Excited to be giving two talks on using rheological tools to build the next generation of injectable biomaterials.

Thanks so much to my advisor @AppelGroup for supporting this project which grew out of a "hmm, that's funny" moment, and to members of the Appel Group for their suggestions & comments.

We hope this model and insight will be useful to users of injectable gels in the drug formulation and 3D bioprinting communities! It's a critical step towards connecting measured material properties and predicting operating conditions for injectors and extruders.

NEW PAPER: What if making a gel *stiffer* made it easier to inject? Out now in Macromolecules (@MacroJrnls_ACS), we report surprising trends in injection force for dynamic hydrogels and develop a new model to predict injectability. Tweetorial below: pubs.acs.org/doi/full/10.10…

The purpose of the deportations we have been seeing has not been to fight antisemitism, but rather to use antisemitism as a beachhead to eventually do away with foreign students altogether, using Jews as a pretext for a non-Jewish political agenda.

EXCLUSIVE: The Trump administration is discussing plans to try to block certain colleges from having any foreign students if it decides too many are "pro-Hamas," senior Justice and State Department officials tell @MarcACaputo. trib.al/eu0GmCW

I was puzzled reading the top of the text, telling myself: "wait a minute, the diamond ring effect is for a solar eclipse, not a lunar!" Now I don't see how the "diamond ring shot" can be taken from the moon! Here is why: The shot seems to be an "annular" sun eclipse where the object blocking the sun covers not quite fully the other object (you can see light all around the blocking object). This works for solar eclipse viewed from the Earth when the Moon is the "blocking" object, but doesn't quite cover the whole Sun When you look from the moon and the blocking object is the Earth: the diameter of the Earth is (I'm rounding) 4 times the diameter of the moon, so it will more than cover the whole sun and will never produce an "annular" sun eclipse to be viewed from the moon !

There are some great photos emerging from the eclipse last night – and these two really captured my interest. The first is a time-lapse photo over Launch Complex 39A at @NASA @NASAKennedy Space Center in Florida. The other is a flawless “diamond ring” (of the Earth blocking out the sun) from the @fireflyspace Blue Ghost lunar lander…taken from the Moon itself! Have a great weekend!
