But what I saw felt more like a display of wealth than culture. The focus was on costs, outfits, decor and gifts, rather than the significance of it all. Maybe I expected too much, but it felt like a missed opportunity to centre meaning instead of material display.

As a mother to a Xhosa son, I watched Mgidi Moms hoping to understand the meaning behind the rituals, the roles people play and the values being passed down. I understand that some aspects are sacred and not for public view, especially what happens during initiation.

After 3 years, my time at Newzroom Afrika has ended. Grateful to the management who gave me a chance 3 years ago, to the editors who worked with kindness, and to the viewers who trusted me with their stories. Kindness will always matter most.

Tsitsi designed a game called After Robot - about the South African taxi industry, where players take on the role of taxi bosses and take on the streets in an attempt to become the ultimate taxi boss. He says he learned English when he was 14.

I think it's important to note, that this is not how refugees leave countries under attack. They don't go to the airport with suitcases packed for flights to their other houses in Europe or the US. This is how settlers leave the territories they occupy when the shit hits the fan.
