@Platypustoo Again, that's something that you created in your head. Please read the original post. Word by word. I was talking about vocabulary, you are talking about "language translation competence" or something. You are arguing like I cheated you in your sleep.

@nodeslashone Alternatively it's the equivalent of someone saying "Because I know about dinosaurs, I love how someone described them" and you saying "I know birds evolved from dinosaurs and I know birds and thus I say their description of dinosaurs is wrong". In English. Or something.

Δηλαδή ο πύργος του Ελληνικού είναι πιο ασχημός από αυτό το καρακιτσαριό που έχει δημιουργηθεί τα τελευταία 60 χρόνια σε Θεσσαλονίκη και Αθήνα;

@Platypustoo That's the equivalent of me saying "Birds can fly" and you replying: "You're an idiot. Elephants can't fly". When I concede that elephants can't fly, you proceed to claim that you won the argument. That's not how logic works, "hon".

@nodeslashone And mine was about how knowing Modern Greek doesn't mean you can translate Ancient Greek into English (well). As you've acknowledged.

@Platypustoo That was not what the original post was about. You interpreted the original post in your head to something completely different. You took an argument about vocabulary and turned it into "knowledge of languages". Can't you see how obviously you misread the original post?

@nodeslashone I'm wrong about lots of things hon. But you've agreed I'm right that knowing Modern Greek doesn't mean you can translate Ancient Greek into English (well).

@Platypustoo But, as I demonstrated, your post is completely irrelevant to the original tweet. You say "demonstrated your ignorance of three languages". My original post was about vocabulary. Can't you get it? It's pretty simple really.

@nodeslashone Yes! That WAS my point. And now you've agreed your knowledge of Modern Greek (language 1) does NOT mean you can translate Ancient Greek (essentially language 2) into English (language 3) (well). HTH!

@Platypustoo Ad hom would imply that you are not an idiot. Based on the argument, it's just a very accurate observation of your intellect.

@Platypustoo No. I never claimed that. The original post was about one specific word. I know the 2 words involved (one is a common Greek word, one is a common English word) and the translation is bad. We have a word in Greek for complicated and it's not "πολύτροπος". Simple enough?

@nodeslashone Ok, I repeat a question I asked someone else (I think). Are you claiming you, with your knowledge of Modern Greek, could translate (well) The Odyssey into English (of which I am uncertain of your knowledge)?
