RIP Dennis Lalor, Jamaican businessman, chartered insurer, and philanthropist, widely regarded as one of Jamaica’s foremost business leaders. Lalor qualified as one of the first two West Indians to earn the Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII) designation in 1958. In 1968, he founded the Insurance Company of the West Indies (ICWI), which he built into one of the Caribbean’s largest full-service financial institutions with operations across Jamaica and the region. He served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the ICWI Group and its subsidiaries for decades, later handing day-to-day leadership to his son, Paul Lalor. Lalor held numerous public and private sector roles, including President of the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (1990–92), member of the Privy Council, Chairman of the Betting, Gaming & Lotteries Commission, Jamaica Racing Commission, and Air Jamaica. An accomplished polo player, he captained Jamaica’s team and served as President of the Jamaica Polo Association and Kingston Polo Club. He contributed significantly to education, sports administration, deaf advocacy, and national development initiatives. Honoured with the Order of Jamaica (1994), the Prime Minister’s Medal (1983), and induction into the Private Sector Hall of Fame, Lalor was recognised for his integrity, leadership, and service to nation-building. #Jamaica #Caribbean
