It’s an animal with a very high food potential in eggs, and extremely limited food potential in meat.
It wasn’t until factory farming that it became affordable to eat chicken meat.

It is interesting to study which countries had large resurgences after the fall of Communism. E.g. Protestant Baltics retvrned, but not East Germany. Catholic Poland Retvrned, but not Czechia.
Might be worth a sociological and theological study.
