@ryxcommar Tech industry hasn't come to terms with AI coding tools dramatically lowered the barrier of entry to the point where you can't assume your customers have knowledge like "API keys should have very narrow capabilities even if they're secrets on the backend"

We get by on search ads & API, opt-in/privacy-preserving browser ads, premium products (VPN, etc.), crypto deals. Support us: brave.com/premium/. Brave Origin (Linux $0; Win/Mac pay once) soon: x.com/BrendanEich/st… Our growth is ~all organic. Thanks to our users! 4/5
BrendanEich@BrendanEich

@CryptoCyberia @frawaurhts No, what you write here is not true. Is it Reddit misinformation? Brave Origin is: 1/ new, optional, separate build (stripped down, no telemetry/rewards/wallet/vpn/ai); 2/ free on Linux, one time buy elsewhere.

@Brave grew to over 107.4M Monthly Active Users (MAU) in December 2025. Brave Browser MAU grew 2.5%, while DAU was flat due to holidays. Monthly new users grew 8.6%! See 5/5. Brave Search QPD growth was 2.3%, with over 9% coming from non-Brave browsers, driven by Android. 1/5

@Leopeva64 @uwukko Wrong. The original source is literally in the screenshots he posted. You just gave some non technical opinions no one was really looking for about a new flag you saw

google just started working on webium, a chrome ui rewrite in webui (html) there's nothing in the source tree yet, only an early skeleton, but it'd be very cool to see the move from views (current native skia ui) to webui. it may just be an experiment, though

@mullvadnet Could you let us choose to waive our right to a refund altogether? Would this be legal? Some people only start using your service after their refund window expires

@ihackbanme @pimskeks @patrickwardle Real journalists are far and few between but I think apple cares about pr. Besides they also care about piracy. I hope they'll give us full permissions but I'm sure they won't

@nome_sc @pimskeks @patrickwardle Not really. if it displays the relevant warnings, and require the pincode it is not different than developer mode. It's also not different than sudo ;). Cheers.

@ihackbanme @pimskeks @patrickwardle If they allow full permissions all journos will start whining about how unsecure iOS is every time a new malware app (that explicitly requests full permissions upfront anyway) is found in the wild like they already do with android. It would be a pr nightmare

@pimskeks @patrickwardle It’s the right thing to do not just from security POV but also from innovation/anti monopoly rules. Let’s see 🙏

@rileytestut The app sandbox exists no matter where the app came from. So the security is all the same. The flexibility on the other hand is worse if you had to be near a PC with other tools installed there too and what not to be able to install your apps

But while I personally believe limited sideloading is the right balance between flexibility & security, it doesn’t matter what I think Apple is clearly going to comply with this law. The only question is HOW they’ll comply…and I doubt Apple will do more than the bare minimum

This is it folks: sideloading is coming to iOS (at least for our EU friends), and maybe full-blown 3rd party app stores too As someone who’s been running a 3rd party app store for past few years...this will greatly affect me 🤪 So perhaps unsurprisingly, I have some thoughts 🧵
Mark Gurman@markgurman

New story: Apple is preparing to allow alternative app stores and side-loading on iOS — along with a slew of other changes to make the iPhone more open — in response to new European Union requirements arriving in 2024. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

@mullvadnet Could you do this with card payments too? If you can't because you are legally required to make them available could you then instead give customers the possibility of waiving their right for a refund when they make a payment?

@haiyuidesu Actually some just don't go through. Other patches I do later do work so the bootrom didn’t crash

@haiyuidesu I kinda wondered that too. But what I’ve observed is that sometimes it works and that’s good enough. Sometimes it doesn’t work though. I don’t know it the patches were not actually applied or if the securerom crashed completely and rebooted the device

@s1guza @WangTielei wtf man, just jailbreak and install system-wide adblocker. I never used a non-jailbroken iOS devices as daily driver. Pretty much one of the reasons i’m still using my 12pro, even though the 13pro has been on my desk since december lol

Starlink has been told by some governments (not Ukraine) to block Russian news sources. We will not do so unless at gunpoint. Sorry to be a free speech absolutist.

@jonathandata1 By extension, if a site gives a 404 instead of an alert that says “Error” it means you pwned them. Right?
