Myles Turner drops a BOMB on NBA referees:
“The refs are like the police. If you f*ck with one of them, you f*ck with all of them, you know? And it’s like they band together, and it’s like, "Nah, he’s not getting no calls." And I’ve seen it actually happen, bro. It’s crazy. And one thing you’ll see, too, is like the rookie refs, or the younger refs, the veteran refs really look out for them. So if you go after a rookie ref, or cuss them out — or the female refs as well, like on our side — if you go after the female refs, the veteran refs will come in and step in, and basically fuck you out of the game.”

@arcanaraccoon @TheNBABase Yeah I get that. They do keep it interesting lol
English

@nomencog @TheNBABase Some are better at emotional regulation than others, but it's as much a part of a player's talent as anything imo. I wouldn't want to watch basketball without any Draymond Greens or Isaiah Stewarts blowing their lid. It's just a certain energy role that some players have
English

@Enrique96219927 @Classy_Fro @TheNBABase Thanks man. And idk I must have hit a nerve. Never had so much engagement on a tweet lol.
English

@nomencog @Classy_Fro @TheNBABase it’s okay bro i get what you mean, i don’t know why people are trying to throw shit at you for nothing
English

@Pearl23X @TheNBABase I get where you're coming from. And I've seen plenty of poorly officiated games where refs let their egos get in the way, and they should be reprimanded. Imo tho it's stupid to curse a ref and think that won't affect how the game is called. Of course it will. Human nature.
English

@nomencog @TheNBABase Of course not, but that’s human nature, especially in a competitive environment. And, especially when you see what you think are inequities taking place against you or your team.
English

@Pearl23X @TheNBABase As a player, if you have an interest in winning, it's not smart to antagonize the people (refs) who regulate that game.
English

@Pearl23X @TheNBABase Not really. People don't respond well to being cursed at or fucked with. I think that's fairly obvious. As long as refs are human, there will be some element of emotion/bias. Maybe we wish that weren't true, but it is. Especially in basketball, where fouls are so subjective.
English

@DevinBaker23 @3lv1s_20 @TheNBABase I think we're on the same page here. Just recognizing the *is* versus the *ought to be*. Basketball seems susceptible to human error in refereeing in ways that tennis, for instance, doesn't deal with. Fouls especially are so subjective that idk how much it can be improved . . .
English

@nomencog @3lv1s_20 @TheNBABase yea for sure. not denying that at all. nature of being human. im just saying, it shouldn’t be that way at all. refs should be able to do their job right not based off emotions like every regular job
English

@ali_ikram203 @TheNBABase I agree. They are paid to be impartial and should be judged harshly. I'm just pointing out that cursing at them is not a great strategy lol. Whenever humans are involved, there's bound to be some personal aspect to it. People are subconsciously swayed by emotion. Unavoidable.
English

@nomencog @TheNBABase Lol its literally their job to officiate the game correctly. The players being disrespectful does not in any way justify messing with the integrity of the game. They are just refs. Nothing more.
English

@TheNBABase Maybe don't cuss them out or fuck with them? They are people after all. Kind of a dumb thing to antagonize them.
English

@TheNBABase So basically… they’re human?
Who ever would’ve thought that going at humans with cuss words and derogatory language would ever have consequences
English

@ScreenPockets @TheNBABase This is a very interesting use of "whistleblower" in this context, lol
English

@TheNBABase In every industry the whistleblower always gets the most public (and/or institutional) backlash. But every NBA fan & hooper knows how refs operate.
English

@NikFord649 Obviously refs should be impartial and judged harshly for biased calls. But when there are humans involved, there's always going to be a personal element to it. So I'm just saying it's not smart to make them dislike you.
English

@NikFord649 I think adrenaline is a fair point man. I understand players are in the heat of the moment. But being able to regulate your emotions is a part of the game. I'm just pointing out that cursing/screaming is not an effective way to get someone on your side.
English

In a game yo emotions is running high if you go down court 4 times in a row and you getting smacked every time you go for a layup and they don’t call it you gone start getting irritated as fuck it’s not like they go out of they way to antagonize these refs
Nomencog@nomencog
@TheNBABase Maybe don't cuss them out or fuck with them? They are people after all. Kind of a dumb thing to antagonize them.
English

@da94527599 @TheNBABase I mean, I get it. The NBA should do a better job of regulating officials, if that's your point. They shouldn't be able to continue refereeing if they have a track record of bias and inconsistency.
English

@nomencog @TheNBABase And I can’t imagine repeatedly fucking someone over with my incompetence, and then acting surprised when they tell me I suck. To each their own ig.
English

@NYKnicksPodcast @3lv1s_20 @TheNBABase I would not agree with that. They should be held to a high standard of impartiality. Too many of them have too big an ego. But when there are humans involved, there's always going to be some personal element to it.
English

@DevinBaker23 @3lv1s_20 @TheNBABase Absolutely man. I think many of these refs carry too much of their ego into the game, and that ruins it, I agree. But as long as humans are involved, there's going to be some element of that . . .
English

@nomencog @3lv1s_20 @TheNBABase i understand what youre saying, but at the same time. refs have one job. make the right calls. yet they hardly do that and most calls they make are out of emotion. thats not right. just like every other job, do it the best you can. not make decisions based off emotions.
English

@da94527599 @TheNBABase 100% my guy. They should be criticized. But I can't imagine cursing at and fucking with someone and then being surprised when they don't give me what I want. That's just not very smart imo. Obviously refs should be impartial and judged harshly.
English

@nomencog @TheNBABase Everyone who sucks at their job gets criticized for it. Players, coaches, GM’s, the cashier at Walmart. Refs are no different stop yapping.
English

@griefmotif_ @TheNBABase Yes I enjoy the sweet sound of the whistle to interrupt a competitive game. Nah man 😂. I'm just saying it's not a smart move to curse the refs and make them hate you. Obviously they should be impartial and I'd appreciate it if they'd remove their egos from the game as well.
English

@wintercIouds @TheNBABase I'm just saying it's not *smart* to curse the refs and make them hate you (if you have an interest in winning). As long as humans are involved, there's a personal element to it. Of course, refs should be impartial and judged harshly.
English

@nomencog @TheNBABase imagine bootlicking for the fucking officials. could never be me.
English

@nomencog @TheNBABase Nah they need to be held accountable too they get shit wrong as well. Players commit dumb fouls and refs make shit calls.
