The Sabra and Shatila massacre took place from 16–18 September 1982 in Beirut,Lebanon. Over roughly 40 hours, Lebanese Phalangist Christian militia, under the watchful eye of the Jews and Yanks, murdered 3,500 Palestinian refugees and Lebanese Shias. The IDF controlled the area surrounding the camps, allowed the entrance of the Phalangist militia, and provided weapons and logistical support during the operation. Children, women, and the elderly were the vast majority of the victims. The kids in this photo more than likely lost parents, siblings and extended family during this massacre.
