that was painful, such a stark contrast to some fantastic talks yesterday around sustainability

@donkeyscience motion is no problem from what i can tell, i had not quite enough satellites in norway so it cut out every now and then, now in scotland it works perfectly. we are on the cheaper marine plan but bought a standard dish before so it is affordable

@norbu09 @norbu09 how is it with boat motion? How upset do they get if you're not on the marine plan?

@traskjd so the difference between modern js dev and old school java dev is that the JVM nowadays is actually optimised and uses way less RAM than a gazillion of node processes? hmmm ... not convinced that is progress tbh :-)

@JamesIvings the nice thing about boat work is that you can just leave the post-its in the done column for a few months and then move them back to "todo" ... that is at least how it works on our boat :-)

@swilera i had an easy filter for that in the past, ask for the CV in a specific format and discard every submission not sent in that format. fixes the "have read your job description carefully" bit

continuing my setup (i really should use a blog) , I am finally settle on #freebsd. While srv-io only partially work I get descent results with jail and simple simple bridging. Here over a 25G link. Beeing a small company the tooling in freebsd makes it easy to maintain. Also patching the system or packages is simpler than on a linux distribution imo.

@souljony @Sruiruim @levelsio organic growth takes time (i helped build organic growth in new zealand) and if we can fast track 10 years of development to catch up with established regions i am all for it. important to me is building pathways for local entrepreneurs, that is my focus atm

@souljony @Sruiruim @levelsio all tax schemes i know of are time bound, i have not done enough here to know all tax breaks available but for me building a vibrant intl scene that is well connected globally (which needs intl people here) is key to build something that lasts and is not just a hype bubble.

@souljony @Sruiruim @levelsio so, the solution for the Algarve then is to live off tourism till that dies and with it the region? What would be a better way than growing entrepreneurship in your view?

@norbu09 @Sruiruim @levelsio I would believe that a couple of years ago. Unfortunately looking at what’s happening in Lisbon I’m not sure that works. Plus the wealthy entrepreneurs will always pay way less taxes than the locals and so they outbid us a lot. the housing market is already crazy enough as is.
