@0xfbifemboy @CapitalGrug @etoeth @imagine_mev not rlly sure what the implications wld be re 'elite' opportunities etc but def interesting to find out
English

@0xfbifemboy @CapitalGrug @etoeth @imagine_mev 2/ determines entrance) so v difficult to admit someone who’s done poorly on test but well connected.
Knew a kid who was fairly smart, both parents went there and his mum is now head of one of the colleges n he got rejected at first round
English

@imagine_mev @etoeth @CapitalGrug @0xfbifemboy agree but also the sheer size of the pool of alumni could easily make finding meaningful connections (background in common, hometown in common etc) even if there is maybe a decent age gap
English

@imagine_mev @etoeth @CapitalGrug @0xfbifemboy ++ more 'deserving' candidates(e.g from shit hs with few opportunities but still managed to produce strong app vs paid schl lazy somewhat bright student with 6 diff college coaches) better positioned to benefit from these opps
English

@imagine_mev @etoeth @CapitalGrug @0xfbifemboy Sorry to randomly jump in haha but surely the counter argument to this is that these schools are so ridiculously well connected re alumni etc already that any benefits provided by direct legacy connections are more or less counterbalanced?
English

@nosleepjon If you don’t fall into either of those categories and still want to go you’re p much fucked tho lol, privatisation of most us infra is tragic
English

@nosleepjon Mm im not from the us so dishing out more than 40k a year is incomprehensible but if you are actually smart and genuinely cannot afford the tuition then most top schools shld cover it entirely
