SPACEX JUST RENTED THEIR GPUS TO ANTHROPIC AND DOUBLED EVERY CLAUDE USER'S LIMITS OVERNIGHT the same person who called them "misanthropic" is now powering their infrastructure. here's what happened: anthropic partnered with spacex to massively increase their compute capacity. effective today: > claude code 5-hour rate limits doubled for pro, max, team, and enterprise > peak hours throttling completely removed for pro and max > API rate limits for opus models raised significantly now they have so much compute they're doubling limits overnight the backstory is what makes this interesting though elon's xAI leased out their "colossus 1" GPU cluster to anthropic. not all their GPUs, they kept colossus 2 for themselves elon also has personal beef with altman so he's willing to do anything to hurt openai. the enemy of my enemy is my friend type thing but here's what it actually reveals about the industry: xAI valued the cash from this deal more than using that compute for their own models. either anthropic paid a massive premium or xAI doesn't believe they can compete in the AI race anymore now that xAI is folded into spacex, renting GPUs for cash is just business. they don't need to protect their own valuation anymore the concern though is that elon now has a killswitch over a chunk of anthropic's capacity. he could pull it on a whim for users this is a clear win (doubled limits, no more peak hour throttling, faster API responses) but anthropic just made themselves partially dependent on the most unpredictable person in tech interesting times
