This whole thing started because we’re all huge Jay-Z fans and we thought it would be great to make a list of his BEST songs. Ranked in order. By people who really know, love and appreciate his catalog. The rules were simple… No features. No freestyles. We didn’t agree on every song. Not one single song was selected and ranked unanimously. Majority vote won. Almost all of the songs that y’all keep mentioning and questioning why they were excluded, were brought up for discussion. There’s no such thing as a perfect list. Going off the top I believe Hov (with Beyoncé in 2014) and Kanye (2015) are the only hip-hop artists ever to headline, perform at the SkyDome. Ye’s was for the closing ceremony of the Pan Am Games when he bounced and threw the mic in the air. 😂

@mindbendermind @theDYNAMICS See that’s the thing. It did a lot to raise the city and OVOs status but the opportunity to lift the local acts outside of ones signed or affiliated with OVO has been a huge miss. And yeah politics got in the way.

@theDYNAMICS @notaurious OVOFest has been absolutely legendary for a decade with Jay-Z, Nas, Eminem, 50 Cent, Lauryn Hill, Outkast & more. It rarely supported local acts like The Pop Out but it put on for the city. Other festivals elevated local MCs like Style In Progress & ManifesTO, but politics happen

A Toronto version of this show could never happen. And don’t bring up the Northern All-Stars show. That was honouring legends. I meant one mixing both legends and current, upcoming acts.
