@MirAckerman @jahirsheikh8 Then it is not surprising to see half of them are swe:)

@notbadfzw @jahirsheikh8 Of course it's percentage of layoffs in IT sphere.
English

Tech layoffs by engineering discipline (2023–2026)
• Software Engineers: 40–50%
• Frontend Engineers: 15–20%
• QA / Test Engineers: 10–15%
• IT / SysAdmin: 8–12%
• Product / Program Engineers: 5–10%
• Data / ML Engineers: 5–8%
• DevOps / SRE: 3–6%
• Security Engineers: 2–5%

I promise this will be the best 20 min you spend today! Robotics: Endgame, the sequel to my last year's Sequoia AI Ascent talk, "Physical Turing Test". I laid out the roadmap for solving Physical AGI as a simple parallel to the LLM success story. Be a good scientist, copy homework ;)
And stay till the end, more easter eggs and predictions for your polymarket!
00:30 DGX-1 origin story at OpenAI, I was there in 2016 signing with Jensen and Elon. Heading to the Computer History Museum!
01:42 The Great Parallel
03:31 Robotics, the Endgame
03:39 Why VLAs fall short
04:32 Video world models as the 2nd pretraining paradigm
06:09 World Action Models (WAM)
07:46 Strategies for robot data collection and the FSD equivalent to physical data flywheel for robot manipulation
11:06 EgoScale and the Dexterity Scaling Law we discovered recently
14:00 Physical RL: bridging the last mile
15:39 DreamDojo: an end-to-end neural physics engine for scaling RL in silico
17:00 Civilizational Technology Tree and my predictions for the near future. Spoiler: it's closer than you think.
Thanks to my friends at Sequoia for inviting me back to AI Ascent this year! I had a blast! Last year's talk is attached in the thread if you missed it.

@SametOymac This paper has been published in Frontiers of Computer Science, 2025, 19(12): 1912405

The appendices include an extended abstract of the paper and comments from seven experts.

Can someone chip in here? Wildest abstracts I have seen in a while:
1) arxiv.org/pdf/2302.09512… seems to claim to prove P!=NP.
2) arxiv.org/pdf/2309.05689… (with shared authors) says GPT4 can also "prove" P!=NP.
If you actually proved P!=NP, who cares about what GPT4 thinks?

This paper claims to prove P≠NP? 🤔 I feel like if this was legit, it would have made a far bigger splash…

Large Language Model for Science: A Study on P vs. NP
paper page: huggingface.co/papers/2309.05…
use large language models (LLMs) to augment and accelerate research on the P versus NP problem, one of the most important open problems in theoretical computer science and mathematics. Specifically, we propose Socratic reasoning, a general framework that promotes in-depth thinking with LLMs for complex problem-solving. Socratic reasoning encourages LLMs to recursively discover, solve, and integrate problems while facilitating self-evaluation and refinement. Our pilot study on the P vs. NP problem shows that GPT-4 successfully produces a proof schema and engages in rigorous reasoning throughout 97 dialogue turns, concluding "P neq NP", which is in alignment with (Xu and Zhou, 2023). The investigation uncovers novel insights within the extensive solution space of LLMs, shedding light on LLM for Science.

@BarackObama @JoeBiden Really need a politician who puts politics aside :)
English

Four years ago, in the middle of a pandemic, we needed a leader with the character to put politics aside and do what was right. That’s what @JoeBiden did.
At a time when our economy was reeling, he drove what would become the world’s strongest recovery – with 17 million new jobs, historic wage gains, and lower health care costs. He passed landmark legislation to rebuild our nation’s infrastructure and address the threat of climate change.
I’m grateful to Joe for his leadership, his friendship, and his lifetime of service to this country we love.

@Boxing_Pandas @3rdwavemedia @Kanthan2030 It is not banned simply because they are created by US companies l, but it requires to operate these apps the same way as many others China apps. The diff is that TikTok is banned regardless it is operated the same way as many other apps.
English

@3rdwavemedia @Kanthan2030 Instagram is banned in china
Your point ?
English

China 1, USA 0
“Americans are flocking to Chinese short-form video app Xiaohongshu (known as RedNote in English).
The app today surged to the #1 spot for free apps on the U.S. App Store.
It is also the top Social Networking app across all free iPhone apps.

@nikstankovic_ @selinawangtv But they at least give the chance to for these apps to operate in China, not force them to sell it
English

@selinawangtv Literally zero US social media companies are banned in China.
English

If TikTok is ultimately banned, China would be getting a taste of own medicine: virtually all major US social media companies are banned in China. Even TikTok is banned. The version that’s available in the mainland, called Douyin, is subject to China’s censorship laws.
The lawyer representing TikTok’s content creators argued today that if Congress were really concerned about data security, why wouldn’t it also seek to regulate Chinese-owned apps like Temu and Shein?
But some legal experts say if TikTok is eventually banned, Chinese-owned apps in the US like Shein and Temu could be next in line. Those companies have also been coming under more scrutiny over forced labor, product safety, and IP theft.
Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar said there is “evidence in the record” that Bytedance has “misappropriated” data at the Chinese government’s request. That includes efforts to track dissidents and protesters in Hong Kong, to track Uyghurs in China, and “misappropriating” US data to surveil US journalists.

@MyDuty896 @GregKara6 @Lang__Leon @NeurIPSConf The funny thing is that this guy is misleading the public by this fake information which is literally cheating, but he did not know his cheating is bad
English

@GregKara6 @Lang__Leon @NeurIPSConf what you said about ‘Chinese don’t understand cheating is bad’ is just not true.

NeurIPS acknowledges that the cultural generalization made by the keynote speaker today reinforces implicit biases by making generalisations about Chinese scholars. This is not what NeurIPS stands for. NeurIPS is dedicated to being a safe space for all of us. We want to address the comment made during the invited talk this afternoon, as it is something that NeurIPS does not condone and it doesn't align with our code of conduct. We are addressing this issue with the speaker directly.
NeurIPS is dedicated to being a diverse and inclusive place where everyone is treated equally.
