🚨 | BREAKING : @Aptos just burned 4 digits of $APT for the first time since Aug 15, 2024.
This comes right after AIP-141 (10x gas fee update) passed yesterday.
Meanwhile:

Will @Aptos go deflationary after AIP-184? Short answer: NO Even after a 10x gas fee increase, Aptos with a 2.6% emission rate will still issue more APT than it burns daily. Aptos max supply is capped at 2.1B, and the current supply is ~1.19B. It will continue issuing rewards at a 2.6% rate until it hits that cap. After that, a portion of gas fees will be shared with validators. Is it possible for @Aptos to ever go deflationary? – YES If @DecibelTrade adds a lot of market (~100) and trading activity reaches ~20–30 TPS, the new 10x gas fees could make Aptos deflationary. Note: @shelbyserves is also launching soon, and it could drive a significant amount of transactions on the Aptos mainnet. TL;DR: Aptos looking better than it did last month.

Lighter's post-mortem on the $ARC attack
tldr: attacker lost $8.2M trying to drain the LLP. LLP lost just 75k thanks to segmented strategies capping exposure (read the full post to understand how). shorts profited.
zero manual intervention, the trader got deleveraged to LLP and then ADL'd out automatically (proof tx in the quoted tweet), exactly as designed
this is what "don't trust, verify" actually looks like in practice

so someone really tried to jelly Lighter with $ARC huh, $6.4M TWAP long trying to drain the LLP (but maybe it was actually an attack on the $LIT token). didn't work
here's the difference, on Hyperliquid, HLP blindly inherited the toxic position and validators had to manually settle at an arbitrary price
on Lighter, the liquidation engine hits the book first, LLP has a hard insolvency check and won't absorb positions that would make it insolvent, and if worst comes to worst ADL socializes losses automatically, like no emergency committee, no arbitrary prices, no manual override. zk circuits enforce the rules, segmented pools contain the blast radius, position privacy blocks reconnaissance and so on
jelly worked on HL because of single insurance pool + no solvency checks + centralized override. Lighter eliminates all three by design. someone literally stress-tested it today and the system just handled it
