@DavidJuurlink Given how residents are treated here, are you really surprised? The profession has none of the perks or respect it once did, and those of us who actually try to work hard are treated as if we’re defective because we don’t dance out the door on time… you don’t like it, fix it.

Our biggest EEG biomarker study to date just got published in @NatMentHealth
Alpha peak frequency-based Brainmarker-I as a method to stratify to pharmacotherapy and brain stimulation treatments in depression
Here we show that Brainmarker-I can help stratify between various antidepressants treatments from psychotherapy, sertraline to TMS protocols, ECT, Ketamine etc. Stratification potential validated for most treatments using blinded out-of-sample validation.
Conclusion: We hereby present a clinically actionable transdiagnostic treatment stratification EEG biomarker that can successfully assign patient subgroups to various ADHD and MDD treatments, and is ready to be implemented in clinical practice.

Things I think I understand
👉 Looks like there was a coup per @karaswisher
Things I don’t think I understand
👉 What led the board to say Altman “wasn’t consistently candid in his communications”?
👉 Why did they move so swiftly, apparently without consulting Microsoft?
👉 Why did they think this would go at all well, and what did they think would happen if they *didn’t* push Sam out?
Any theories? The board must have anticipated litigation? No?

New article in the BMJ - Who heals the healers - Burnout in mental health services [in Ireland]:
The study concluded that there was a high rate of burnout among mental health workers in Ireland during the COVID-19 pandemic, affecting 64.1% of participants. Key risk factors for burnout included being female, younger age, working in urban services, time spent outside main responsibilities, overcommitment, a high effort–reward imbalance, intention to change jobs, and increased workload during the pandemic.
* The study also found that personal and work-related burnout levels were high, while patient-related burnout was low. *
However, overcommitment was associated with higher patient-related burnout. The findings suggest that burnout existed before the pandemic but was exacerbated by the additional strains of the pandemic. The study emphasizes the need for organizational support and solutions to mitigate burnout and sustain a healthy workforce.
