Three detectives attached to the Pretoria West police station have been arrested by the South African Police Service, National Anti-Corruption Investigation Unit, following an undercover operation. The arrested officers, identified as two sergeants and a constable, are facing charges of corruption and extortion. According to a preliminary police report, the trio allegedly demanded and received money from two suspects linked to a kidnapping case that they were investigating. The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by SAPS to clamp down on corruption within its own ranks, particularly involving officers accused of abusing their authority for personal gain. The arrests come amid increased scrutiny of alleged criminal conduct involving law enforcement officials across the country. The three detectives are expected to appear before the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court next week, where they will formally face charges related to corruption and extortion.
