After 30+ years of signing windows drivers, we have been locked out of driver signing like many other companies. In a word, the disrespect and disregard with which MSFT is treating IHVs and ISVs is stunning. Don’t let anyone tell you it’s because we didn’t read our emails or submit the right verification paperwork. Cuz we did all that back in October. And this month, we were suddenly and without any warning locked out. Support said they’d “do their best” to let us know “within 90 days” if we’re good enough to get back on. In the meantime, many thousands of desktops and instruments are not being updated, cuz we can’t sign drivers. Awesome job, Microsoft. Thanks.

@OSRDrivers In fact, when they asked me to ask copilot, they didn't continue talking to me; instead, they simply closed the case.

@number201724 We’re certainly not fans of code obfuscation in kernel mode but there clearly needs to be more transparency across the board here. And a better way to communicate and raise issues than being slow walked through email support (if you’re lucky to even get that far).

@OSRDrivers I've already submitted an appeal and opened a case, but they just keep telling me to ask copilot. I've even stated in emails more than once that we can provide source code review and that it doesn't contain malicious code, and then they just keep sending me to ask copilot. WTF.

Additionally, based on what I learned from industry peers, Anti-Cheat Expert also encountered the same issue. They were able to obtain a whitelist through a dedicated communication channel between Tencent and Microsoft. Meanwhile, we have been going back and forth with Microsoft Support for four months.🤬🤬🤬🤬

@number201724 Interesting. Opinions on code obfuscators aside, is there a formal statement that lists this restriction? And if so does it describe what method do they use to scan for it? Hadn't heard this before now.

@OSRDrivers In December 2025, they classified drivers protected with VMProtect, Themida, or Virtualizer as malware or potential vulnerabilities without providing any notification.

In fact, even the ACE anti-cheat system, which has hundreds of millions of users, has encountered this issue. However, they have access to Microsoft’s professional support channels, and the problem was resolved for them. We don’t have that—we’re not Tencent. This issue initially started with a Sign error 4001, and then the account was suspended.

3-4 months without any results is apparently completely normal for Microsoft. No appeal, it's "just paperwork, bro". Blocking and having message saying "no appeal" is just standard business? Wtf is this company doing for the past years?
number201724@number201724

@cdn724 We've been trying to resolve this through the support system for three months with no progress. I even sent a paper email to MS's Business & Regulatory Investigations. Still no progress.

@shanselman This is a joke! Three months of support emails with absolutely no progress, only making us endlessly ask copilot questions.

Hey I love dumping on my company as much as the next guy, because Microsoft does some dumb stuff, but sometimes it's just check emails and verify your accounts. Not every "WTF micro$oft" moment is a slam dunk. I've emailed VeraCrypt personally and we'll get him unblocked. I've already talked to Jason at WireGuard. Not everything is a conspiracy, sometimes it's literally paperwork.

Just Microsoft things... Recently they terminated the VeraCrypt developer's Microsoft account. VeraCrypt is a free and open-source disk encryption software that performs on-the-fly encryption (OTFE) to create virtual encrypted disks, encrypt partitions, or secure entire storage devices.

What about Windscribe saying "We've been trying to resolve this for over a month, and getting nowhere. Support is non-existent.". When such big projects must come to social media to get things done, there is a big problem on Microsoft. No gaslighting on security, please.

@shanselman It is a really weird coincidence that at the same time at least three critical security apps didn’t check their emails and didn’t update the paperwork. But if you say so...

Even if he passes the verification, and submits a few driver files, his account might suddenly become suspended one day. Then you'll find yourself in the same situation as me, endlessly contacting customer service and being bombarded with questions about copilot, demanding proof that your software doesn't contain malicious code.

@shanselman I sent it by paper courier to Business & Regulatory Investigations, Microsoft Corporation, One Microsoft Way, Redmond, WA 98052, United States. We really had no other choice.

Similarly, I even sent a notification letter to Microsoft about this issue, but I haven't received any response. I complained to buscond@microsoft.com, and they told me they could only track the progress but couldn't resolve the problem. We're going crazy! My partner has hundreds of thousands of daily active users, yet this issue remains unresolved.

No, this is just one problem. 1. First, MS's email system is faulty; no emails were sent at all. 2. Partner Center gets stuck in a strange state when Azure AFD crashes, then strange problems occur, preventing you from continuing account verification. 3. My account passed verification completely, then was inexplicably banned. They said our software contained malware or risks. We are anti-cheat software, and I'm curious what malware is in our code? I tried telling MS support that our code doesn't contain malware, but they just passed the buck and told me to ask Copilot. After I opened a case with Copilot, they told me to ask Copilot again for the same reason. It's infuriating. We haven't been able to release new anti-cheat driver updates to users for three and a half months.

In all these scenarios, they either didn't see emails or didn't take action on emails going back into October of last year and until now. Spam folder, didn't see them, lots of valid reasons that can be worked on on. Then they open tickets and they tickets don't move fast enough (days or weeks, not hours) Once the deadlines hit, then folks complain on social and then folks have to manually unblock accounts with urgency. Things become urgent, but we not always urgent.

@shanselman every time we contact support, they tell us the driver contains malware or vulnerabilities and ask us to prove it. We say we're willing to cooperate in proving it, and then after a while they tell me to ask Copilot. Are there any normal people left at Microsoft?

@shanselman my partner 5eplay and my company have also been suspended. The former is a CS2 game platform with hundreds of thousands of daily online users in China. Since Christmas, we have been unable to update the anti-cheat driver for users.
