Another cover is out! 🥳 It was a pleasure to illustrate the research by Zou et al. on the development of a DNA nanodevice that measures organellar sodium ion levels in lysosomes of living cells.

The July issue is live nature.com/nbt/volumes/42… Our cover shows a DNA nanodevice measuring organellar sodium ion levels in lysosomes of living cells. Zou et al. developed RatiNa for imaging intracellular Na⁺ at single-organelle resolution go.nature.com/3Zqfl04

In this cartoon-style illustration, the boxing ring represents the enzyme's active site, where two pills "battle" for it 💊🥊 MCP-Et shines the spotlight on the competitors, while the R-groups of serine, histidine, and glutamic acid form the catalytic triad posts.

🔹 Cellular sodium ion (Na+) balance is crucial for organism health, but its role in organelles is not well understood due to imaging challenges. 🔹 This research introduces a new probe that measures Na+ levels in lysosomes, providing insights into organellar Na+ dynamics.

It was a real pleasure to work on this illustration for @BrunaMartinsGa2's postdoc project! The image represents the "seed and soil" theory 🌱 which suggests cancer cells (the "seeds") will only thrive in specific environments (the "soil") that support their growth.

Breast cancer cells are depicted as dandelion seeds spreading from the primary tumor, while the colors used suggest that a metabolic match between cancer cells and tissues is necessary for the tumor to take root and grow.
