happy to share that a team of talented Ugandan engineers and researchers at @AIStudioUganda has released the Crane Models White Paper it introduces Uganda's first sovereign, culturally-grounded Large Language Models (LLMs), tailored to understand Ugandan languages, customs, and values the Crane Models will be trained and deployed locally, ensuring data sovereignty and cultural authenticity the paper also presents the UCCB Benchmark, the first framework to evaluate AI's understanding of Ugandan context this concept and along with the benchmark are being tested out on a fine-tuned Crane Gemma 1B-IT model the benchmark will be open-sourced soon for global AI community collaboration grateful to have played a small part in this important journey—contributing knowledge on fine-tuning Gemma 3 models, scripting for data collection, and supporting Uganda's push for sovereign, culturally-aligned AI 🙂 🔗 scribd.com/document/87684…
