@PaulOzNo1 Well I’ve been in the yesterdays man club for 9 years & never been happier so enjoy the future. There is more to life than debt advice.

@nwpearson I’m joining the yesterday’s man club. Retiring, but still doing a bit if you know what I mean. Typical CAB departure you could say, total disrespect -;)
English

@PaulOzNo1 Anyway, are you packing it in then m’owd? Retiring? I’m just about to start a new 2.5 day a week job as it happens as an Environmental Maintenance Executive! Basically strimming, chainsawing, mowing & hedge cutting in the bog wildlife walk area in the nearest village to our farm.

@nwpearson Yes, I’ve heard things like that. We all end up surplus to requirements in the end or as that chap shouted in the Michael Douglas film - Falling Down. A not economically viable person. I was once told by the jobcentre if you sign this you won’t have to worry coz you won’t exist.

@PaulOzNo1 @Debtmastersize5 8c here in Lovely Leitrim!

@Debtmastersize5 @nwpearson Snowfall in Derbyshire this morning Mister. It even reached this outpost but quickly turning to rain & slush here now. Tricky & dangerous driving conditions for some though.

Patchy ice on the kerb this morning nearly had me on my arxx again. Scary stuff for a yesterdays man @nwpearson

@Debtmastersize5 Good points - I was a bit of a sceptic about it at the time but in the pilots, the loans were popular with customers, esp those who never repaid them!

@nwpearson Except that are actually very expensive. Not Provi or Greenwood’s rates but expensive nonetheless. Plus, there is the elephant in the room of child benefit loans.

So this idea has resurfaced - I was on a HM Treasury Taskforce that recommended this 20 years ago theguardian.com/money/2026/jan…

“In the context of the particular game, I have never seen a better test match innings.”
~ Richie Benaud
In 1991, Graham Gooch scored 154* that inspired England to their first home Test win against West Indies for 22 years.
He scored 61% of England's 252 runs in 2nd innings (an English record) - 8 batsmen failed to make it out of single figures.

@SteveCaple4 I remember it well. My maternal Grandad got a job there in 1947 after being demobbed. Did 30+ years there.

@PaulOzNo1 I know that feeling. Went over on my arse carrying a bale of hay up to my sheep this morning.

Tony Greig returns to the pavilion 94* at the close of the third day, India v England, 2nd Test, Calcutta, January 3rd 1977. He went on to score 103 in over seven hours despite a raging temperature. His innings paved the way for a 10-wicket win and he led England to a 3-1 series victory. Within 6 months he had lost the captaincy because of his involvement with Kerry Packer
