Devorah Halberstam has spent her life advocating for the safety and well-being of Jewish New Yorkers. This morning, she welcomed me, Commissioner Tisch, and Council Member Hudson to the Jewish Children’s Museum, where we discussed the importance of ensuring this city remains a place where Jewish history can be celebrated and shared with everyone — including young New Yorkers.
This Jewish American Heritage Month, we honor the rich culture and history that Jewish New Yorkers contribute to our city daily.

Whether you're studying online, finding a new job, or keeping in touch, internet is a basic need. But right now, too many New Yorkers don't have internet connectivity.
I am proud to announce alongside @NYCHousing @RepRitchie @NYPL that we are expanding New York City’s Neighborhood Internet Program, which provides free, high-speed broadband to New Yorkers living in affordable housing. Now, an additional 2,000 NYC households will gain access to high-speed broadband across the Bronx.

I am horrified and angered by the swastikas painted on homes and synagogues in Queens, including on a plaque honoring survivors of Kristallnacht. This is not just vandalism — it is a deliberate act of antisemitic hatred meant to instill fear.
There is no place for antisemitism in Queens or anywhere in our city. I stand in solidarity with our Jewish neighbors. Their safety, dignity, and belonging are non-negotiable.
The NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating and I am confident those responsible will be held accountable.

For far too long, City government has stood idly by while New York homeowners fall victim to criminal deed theft schemes.
Those days are over. We're creating the City's first Office of Deed Theft Prevention.
If you think you or someone you know may be a victim of deed theft, visit nyc.gov/deedfraud for support now.

I am gutted by the killing of 17-year-old Jonathan Melo, a high school student remembered by his family as someone who lit up every room he entered, brought joy to those around him, and dreamed big.
On Friday evening, I spoke with his mother Raquel to express my deepest condolences. She shared that her focus is on securing justice for her son. My administration is committed to supporting his family in any way we can.
No parent should have to carry this kind of loss. We owe it to Jonathan — and to every family across the five boroughs — to deliver on our commitment to the essential work of preventing violence and building a safer city for all, especially our children.

Last night, I stood with the Sikh Officers Association to observe Vaisakhi and Khalsa Sajna Divas — the birth of the Khalsa, rooted in justice, courage, and selfless service.
I am humbled by the Sikh officers who carry these values into our streets every day.
Nirbhau Nirvair — without fear, without hate. Happy Vaisakhi to all.

I am devastated by the loss of a
9-year-old boy struck this morning while crossing the street in Williamsburg.
My heart is with his family and loved ones as they endure this tragic loss.
Children should be safe walking around our city, and this horrific road death is a painful reminder that we must continue to use every tool available to make our streets safe for all New Yorkers.

Yesterday, I joined the Janazah prayer for Abdul Saleh, a Yemeni New Yorker killed outside of the bodega he worked in last week.
Saleh was deeply loved by his patrons, neighbors, and family. He was a father, a son, a brother and a proud member of this city's immigrant community.
Too many of our city's deli and bodega workers have faced the devastating impacts of gun violence — it is an issue Abdul himself spoke out against. Our city must, and will, listen to these experiences as we work to keep every New Yorker safe.
Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un —
to God we belong, and to Him we shall return.
