@gratifihouston I'm glad the reporting piece is included in the policy. HPD has been saying "we don't want to do this" so now we'll see.

I'm glad to see this. And I hope it's the beginning of a more aggressive use of Prop A by council members. Curious about how this shakes out with the city's legal department.

In her third month as a Houston council member, a big swing this morning for @salinasforhtx: She + @AbbieKamin + @PollardforHTX have put forward a proposal seeking to change HPD policy to prevent traffic stop holdovers for ICE. houstonchronicle.com/politics/houst… via @HoustonChron

@HaleforHouston @evan7257 @AbbieKamin @PollardforHTX How is it watered down from Plummer's proposal? This doesn't appear much different to me, although I was disappointed that council members didn't support her proposal and I'm still hoping that we get an end to non-safety traffic stops.

@evan7257 @AbbieKamin @PollardforHTX I know Kamin was making the excuse about legality in private, idk about Pollard's reasoning. This is also watered down from what Plummer proposed so that might've made them more willing.

All the City of Houston has to do on the matter is follow the City of Austin's policy. Instead the mayor and chief of police are holding pressers blaming "young officers" instead of owning the fact that the mayor's policy is designed to foster maximal collaboration with ICE.

It's very important to not let this story go. The public was repeatedly mislead by Whitmire and Satterwhite that the "civility" ordinance wouldn't criminalize the homeless. FALSE. Shame on City Council for going along with this not once but twice.

Mayor John Whitmire's pledge to "end homelessness" in Houston faces challenges. There was a substantial shortfall in his fundraising goal, and criminal enforcement has outpaced housing and service referrals. houstonpublicmedia.org/articles/news/…

@emilytakesnotes Well considering people are being held in the Harris County Jail for ICE, and that 20 people died in the Harris County Jail in 2025, I don't think this is as positive as they're trying to make it out.

Some pro-ICE speakers at council on Wednesday asked how many people have died in detention in Houston, to illustrate Houston as a positive example. It looks like none? But the total in Texas so far this year is six. texastribune.org/2026/02/19/ice…

Mayor Whitmire today re: overtime going over budget: "If you look at the three departments that require overtime — police, fire and solid waste — I think that's where Houstonians expect us to provide those services."
